In any case, no matter how well a decade is remembered for having great movies in whatever genre, that’s always only ever going to be the top of the iceberg, underneath all those hits there’s always going to be an even greater number of misses.

I'm a fan of SNL related films from the 80s (GHOSTBUSTERS, STRIPES, SPIES LIKE US, etc.), Mel Brooks, THE NAKED GUN and AIRPLANE! I was thinking more

To be clear, I think the 80s is one of the best decades for film, I just find a lot of the comedies from the era weak, or I feel I've outgrown them. You can say that about every decade though.

These links prove that the film is generally considered to be a masterpiece or great or a quality film.

It can be overrated or bad just from someone's point of view but again, there's no way that something like Apocalypse Now or Fight Club can be considered poor quality.

Generally speaking, they are often a good indicator. The problem is that quality is entirely subjective (and relative).

Because we're talking about history making films. So does Inception to a lesser degree.

I actually think it works better for directors, given their style and thematic content can be different and some people might not like that.

Terrence Malick is a good example of that.

Not for me. I tend to not let my personal preference surpass "objective facets".

I do that even for Blue Velvet, let alone films i like.
