.
I'm a fan of SNL related films from the 80s (GHOSTBUSTERS, STRIPES, SPIES LIKE US, etc.), Mel Brooks, THE NAKED GUN and AIRPLANE! I was thinking more

OVERBOARD
WEEKEND AT BERNIE'S
MANNEQUIN
REVENGE OF THE NERDS
CADDYSHACK II
THE TOY
ONE CRAZY SUMMER
SEE NO EVIL, HEAR NO EVIL
HOWARD THE DUCK
WHO'S HARRY CRUMB?
POLICE ACADEMY sequels

To be clear, I think the 80s is one of the best decades for film, I just find a lot of the comedies from the era weak, or I feel I've outgrown them. You can say that about every decade though.

Conversely, there's no way to "prove" a film's quality so you may spare us any of more of your unabomber length, link-filled manifestos in the future in which you attempt to do just that.

These links prove that the film is generally considered to be a masterpiece or great or a quality film.

It can be overrated or bad just from someone's point of view but again, there's no way that something like Apocalypse Now or Fight Club can be considered poor quality.

Generally speaking, they are often a good indicator. The problem is that quality is entirely subjective (and relative).

Can you just give it a break already. People are free to call what ever they want to be bad movies, get a grip and stop arguing.

I think that this modus operandi works better for directors.

Since not everything is everyone's cup of tea.

It works for everything, precisely for that reason.

Generally considered to be great? Yes. Provably great? No.

Why not?
Kinda.

Because we're talking about history making films. So does Inception to a lesser degree.

I actually think it works better for directors, given their style and thematic content can be different and some people might not like that.

Terrence Malick is a good example of that.

Of course they do, but that would be an opinion.

And that's all there is, "measurable facets" be damned. Art is too big and too personal to simply come down to measurable aspects.

Not for me. I tend to not let my personal preference surpass "objective facets".

I do that even for Blue Velvet, let alone films i like.
