Because that strikes me as a pretty crucial distinction.

In public Yedlin has toed the party line, not mentioning it as some sort of debilitating curse on filmmaking in the American Cinematographer article for Last Jedi, for example. But on his own Twitter he's scathing about it, he'll do it because he HAS to (again: not all filmmakers have Cameron-like powers) but not because he WANTS to e.g. look at some of the threads here: https://twitter.com/pepotwe/status/1468225074536882185 with a pertinent quote below:

Once the novelty wears off, I think a lot of filmmakers are going to look back and ask themselves why they'd fallen for a fad that was meant to sell TVs at the expense of their own taste in visual authorship.

Oh, and the producer of special features for Lionsgate, a man called Cliff Stephenson, used to post on here and he worked closely with Johnson and Yedlin when creating the special features package for Knives Out. He said in no uncertain terms that HDR is basically a joke to J&Y.

Roger Deakins is the same, hates HDR. And 3D. And IMAX. But as those things are often baked into what the studio expects then they must be delivered no matter the DP's feelings on the matter.

It’s understandable why studios want to establish a brand identity, but still, “A Knives Out Mystery” is such an awkward branding title for this franchise.

I had the pleasure of seeing Rian Johnson introduce a 35mm print of The Last of Sheila at TIFF 2019. A 70s whodunit that served as one of the inspirations behind Knives Out, featuring a great performance by the criminally underrated actress Joan Hackett.
