The fact that Netflix have dumped an unprecedented (for them) amount of BTS material and featurettes for Glass Onion onto their YouTube channel would seem to indicate that no physical release is in the offing. As if to say 'You want special features? There you go. Now hush'.

I prefer the first movie. I think Onion is quite funny but it has many situations that are hard to believe that added to other worthless scenes make a barely passable movie. And the performance of the two main characters was not very good. |

Calling this film barely passable is bonkers. Some of you must not watch too many films if this is what you consider a bad film.

Hope it does, as the more movies are made by streaming services, the more certain movies are not going to get physical media releases. They just do not see this being worth it for some reason.

Glass Onion may get a physical release but they are looking at Glass Onion as sort of Agatha Christie/Sherlock Holmes/Clue version of the MCU. They want to create a cadre of films and off-shoots from Knives Out. Anyway, that's the thinking. But if subsequent films underperform they are just as happy to jettison the idea. So I was told.
Also, any films that have residual issues (DGA, WGA, SAG) tied to them will never see a physical release. They would rather bury it than have to pay residuals. This is the same for Amazon and Apple original content. This part was explained to me by a friend who is currently directing a series for Amazon and previously did one for Netflix. Netflix released Rian Johnson's commentary in the form of a podcast that you can sync with the movie, which you can find here.
I'm glad it's available but this is such a lazy way of implementing it, by basically not implementing it at all. Is it really that hard to add an option for it in the actual Netflix app? |
