Considering the original was a real sleeper hit and proved that there was cross-demographic business in modest adult-oriented genre films, the news is actually pretty gutting.

That said if anyone deserves a decent slice of the pie it’s Rian Johnson, so I’m happy he found his golden goose.

Oh and $450 mill is crazy money for an IP like this.

Yep I think word of mouth helped Knives Out, it even had my Mum in her 70s going out to the cinema. So seems to be liked in more demographics than usual.

$200m for each movie? Black Panther cost $200m. These movies don’t need that much.

As with Borat the price isn't so much about the cost as the profit they could have made theatrically.

Damn, I just hope these come out in theaters even if it’s a limited run, and on 4K blu-ray down the line.

Damn - forget Star Wars, THIS is the property that made Rian Johnson a mega millionaire.

I bet his payday here all said and done is bigger than Star Wars.

And I am sure Craig made a huge post-Bond payday here as well.

Good for Rian Johnson. Get that money. Knives Out is one of my favorites of the past few years and I'm ready to jump back into that world.

I feel like Netflix is a good place for a series like this (and hopefully start with a 3 week theatrical exclusive run). Obviously the price is eye popping, but when there have been reports of how much Netflix spends, it doesn’t seem as crazy.

Is Snyder League the new thing that will be brought up in every thread regardless of if it’s connected or not?

It’s the new Star Wars/Disney.

****ing bummer. The original was the type of movie that works better as a theatrical experience. It was such a good blast to watch with an audience and hearing the reactions to all the jokes and twists and turns.

Honestly when I first saw the news I thought they were making a series out of it...then got a little bummed it's a movie. This kind of story could be a great mini-series
