I for one have never understood the Gladiator love, of course I haven't seen it since the theater 20 years ago. I'm surprised Black Hawk isn't getting much recognition either.

I haven't seen the dc of American Gangster nor did I hear it existed before

One thing I wish he'd finally make before he retires is that Napoleon movie (I think he took up the mantle from Kubrick?). That's my #1 wish
Yes - the DC of KOH adds mostly great stuff that really weeds out the story and characters more. For me, its a fastest 3+ hours in cinema history. I just love that film. The Theatrical release is just OK and barely at that. People who only saw the TE are rightfully disappointed and are also right to forget about it.

I really dig Gladiator like many people but its basically just a revenge film at its core. The production values, Ridleys direction & the performances kick it up several notches for sure. The directors cut of Gladiator isnt as good as the additions just slow it down and dont add much, IMO.

Glad you brought up American Gangster. I watched that film about two weeks ago and forgot how much I enjoyed it. Its very good - although the third act gets a little wonky. The first 1/2 acts are excellent. I think I watched the DC and IIRC, both versions are fine.

Ah yes - A Napoleon film would be cool. Strangely, we dont have that many truly good major historical figure films. The existing Cleopatra films arent that great. Genghis Kahn films are mediocre at best. Hitler movies never seem to work. Alexander the Great was attempted by Oliver Stone but that movie sucked, lol. So yeah - Let Ridley take a crack at it.

Not sure why? Bad sci-fi is bad and theres a TON of it out there. So many let-downs over the last 10-15 years. Bad historical dramas are also just "bad". I dont give films leeway just because they are about something interesting. If anything, films in my favorite genres tend to have me raising the bar! Prometheus wasnt a bad movie but it wasnt really good either, IMO. It had some cool stuff in it but ultimately was not the Alien prequel I was looking for. And dont even get me going on Covenant....

Oh man, just saw the Gucci poster, and Ridley Scott could not have had smaller billing, the poor man. Jared Leto's name is as large as the poster!

The fastest three hours for me personally for a movie are Casino and (GULP!) The Wolf Of Wall Street (my GULP! comment for this movie is because you don’t like Leonardo DiCaprio ), while Goodfellas and (GULP!) Once Upon A Time In Hollywood (my GULP! comment for this movie is because you don’t like Quentin Tarantino, again, nor do you like Leonardo DiCaprio ) are personally the fastest two and a half to three hours for me for a movie.

I like Ridley. Definitely a good story teller and all entertaining. He's done us good.

Hannibal, is one of my all time favourites. I especially like his epic period movies: Gladiator, Kingdom of God, Robinhood, etc. Haven't seen The Last Duel yet but I do like the 'Rashomon' premise.

"I have been entertained!"

I shook my head in amazement when I saw a bus with side-by-side ads of Last Duel and Gucci. It’s like Renny Harlin releasing Die Hard 2 and Ford Fairlane the same weekend

Peter Jackson has a cut-off date for when he became unbearable: everything after 1996.

Scott is inconsistent, and probably a better production designer than a director, but he can still deliver the goods

Unfortunately, I doubt it. House of Gucci probably won't be respected enough and seen as "trashy chic", whereas Disney won't shell out for a strong Last Duel campaign.

Saw No Time To Die last night, they showed Gucci and Last Duel trailers! I don't think that happens often, a director with 2 trailers before a blockbuster. I hadn't seen a trailer for Gucci yet, and it did look interesting, but they sure aren't putting Ridley's name on it very large

Default Happy 84th, Sir!

Too bad he doesn't have time to be on Twitter. I'd congratulate him directly and he could tell the cellphone-wielding "millennials" to **** off directly, too.
