It is extremely grainy. If Universal screws this up they'll miss out on large profits.

+1 on that. It'll be nice to remove the HBO HD Broadcast from my DVR. That baby is going on two years now.

Wow, Jaws, E.T., Indy and Schindler's all within the same year? Brilliant!

Was thinking might make the "I hate grain crowd" foam at the mouth when they see this one

Is their 100th Ann. DVD a new transfer or just an old disc in a new package?

Then they can take Minority Report, Saving Private Ryan, and War of the Worlds and stick them.... You get the idea.

Grain is visibly reduced, some smearing is evident and colors are off because the contrast has been boosted, which also obscures shadow detail. And all of this is on top of a dated master. But hey, if you keep saying otherwise, maybe that will make it true.

Here's hoping they would rescan the film instead of recycling the DVD master and leave the picture alone.
Im sure they will do whats right for the picture, Plus, its a classic. Though Seeing it on blu will be the first time ever :3

Universal doesnt screw with Speilbergs movies, Speilberg himself oversees the transfers of his movies and so far, they all look beautiful. Well, maybe not so much Jurassic Park, but Close Encounters, E.T., and Jaws are imo almost as perfect as they could ever be, with exsisting technology that is.

It wouldn't be Universal if they had refrained from using digital tinkering.
