If not for my posts a reader unfamiliar with Apple digital movies would incorrectly be lead to believe the content would not be local and subject to the quality of internet connection….I am happy to clear up that misnomer and point out that your complaints were misplaced…you’re welcome readers!

Not only better than nothing but potentially better than 3D bluray if AppleVision is as good as expected!

No proprietary system is going to be better than 3D Blu-ray, but the Meg 2 thread isn't the thread for that discussion, so I have moved it here.

Zappiti also supports 3D frame packed play and they are miles ahead of Android/Zidoo as they also support DV & highend HDR…

Since I've gotten the Vero4K+, I haven't used discs at all. Just so convenient playing from my Plex server instead of having to find and load discs to play. And I can continue from elsewhere although I've pretty much stopped using the TV and using the projector always now. Funny how I thought that projectors were just fuzzy and it turned out I just needed glasses all this time. I wonder if discs are better quality but I haven't noticed a difference even now that I'm using glasses.

If a proprietary system supported frame packed 3d at higher resolutions than 1080p then by definition it would be better….and AppleVision may just do that!

In theory yes if say the bandwidth was equal but iTunes 4K looks like crap compared to a good 1080p Blu Ray.

Compression matters and they crank it till it's only bearable on an iPad.

By your definition, not mine.

For me, the fact that it's a proprietary system outweighs the improvement in resolution. Not to mention no physical media. Can't have four people together on a sofa watching it either. So the way I see it, there are lots of ways it's worse, but only one way it's better.

I just sense a lot of resistance from you, in the end isn't it all about 3D no matter what ? although not confirmed, if this ends up being the only way to watch the lost 3D movies from Disney (and even maybe from other studios who knows), what's got to give to you to change your mind ?

Frame Packing 3D is part of the H.264 codec with MVC extension. You can't use any other system for frame packing without the express written permission of MPEG. LA who is the keeper of the patents.

H.264/MVC = 1080P per eye.

It usually takes years to develop new codecs. It is not a quick and easy thing to accomplish. VVC, the latest codec took 5 years just to set the specifications. It's been available since 2020 yet few are using it.

It is far easier to simply upscale MVC to whatever resolution the Apple Vision is using like when 3D Blu-Rays are shown on a 3D compatible 4K TV.

I would LOVE to buy a headset to watch 3D movies on but I want to watch them from 3D Blu-ray and from USB sticks. I don't want to have to be online or go through some walled-off system.

If I have to get AV to watch 3D movies that are unavailable any other way then I'll probably get one, but I won't be happy about it. I have always hated everything about Apple and their products and I do not want to support the company.

I understand but it may be useful to realize that's all you and none of it is healthy.

You might consider the headsets by Meta. You can probably find a way to watch 3D movies on those and they are cheaper and also in the 4th gen of product unlike this Apple thing which is just for folks who don't know better.

I would not use a VR headset for a full length movie. I think they are all actually bad for your eyes. Thankfully 3DBD still is a thing on my system all of what I use supports it. Players and Projectors that support 3D are still common.

Not being interested is one thing but hatred is something you have to maintain and I would suggest it's not worth it.

Apple makes a lot of great things and hating them doesn't actually get you anywhere also.
I have an iPhone for work, I hate it. I hate the proprietary approach the company takes to all its products. I hate the built-in obsolescence. I hate the hipster style. It's not an irrational hatred at all but if hate is too strong a word, then let's say "actively dislike". There are no Apple products I wish I owned.

It's not like I spend my time slating Apple online or sending them faeces in the post, I am not consumed by hatred, don't worry. I am happy just ignoring the company and its products. What would make me very unhappy is if I had to buy an Apple product to be able to watch 3D movies and there was no alternative.

I used to think the only thing you could be sure of with Apple is overpaying.

But, ... They have some compelling things. I use a lot of them these days.

Goes without saying they are Very popular.

This silly VR thingie (VisionPro) they are making could result in a lot more 3D being available and accessible. The new iPhone 15 can shoot 3D stills and 3D Video.
