I think it's difficult to license Japanese bonus content for the U.S. I've heard that the rules regarding actors' likenesses and such are different. It basically means participants may need to get paid. That's why Toho came down hard on Media Blasters for including extras on their Godzilla discs that Toho hadn't approved: It opened Toho up to being financially liable to pay Japanese talent.
Haha I truly didn't mean to start anything. If there's an anime vs kaiju fan fight… um… I'm gonna head out (while secretly rooting for team kaiju).

Thanks for the legit answer. I didn't realize it could be anything more than Toho being stingy with their stuff.

I’ve heard more than one rumor about licensing from Japanese companies being very complex and difficult.

do you have to be a godzilla fan to enjoy shin godzilla?
$5 on amazon, considering a blind buy but i've seen only a few older godzilla films and the american remake.

BUT i do love hideaki anno's films (love&pop especially)

It's a very serious and political film, not unlike the 1954 original. But it is a very modern movie that has an entirely unique feel from any other Godzilla film before or since (especially the American films). For $5, I don't think you can go wrong if you have an interest in the film, but it isn't a movie for everyone.

Of course, it's also entirely unrealistic. The notion that when faced with a massive crisis threatening not just the lives but the entire economic and social structure of the nation the government would spend all its time arguing about what to do, changing its mind, playing the blame game and passing the buck instead of actually doing something about the problem would never fly today in the real world...

Are you sure it wouldn't?

The whole point of the film was to critique this very issue.

Boring, terrible film, regardless of intent. Snoozefest. Hated it.

Amusing and poignant satire, interesting and kooky and sometimes creepy monster design, and is a good use of the character to comment on and process a present day situation in the same vein as the original. Would easily recommend as a blind buy when it reaches a scant $5 again.

Although, wasn't it's original point of reference how the government handled a recent meltdown of a nuclear power plant?

I really liked it.
That first appearance of Godzilla was creepy as heck.

I made it about 20 minutes into the film and shut it off, it was so boring and CGI was not what I was expecting. Sometimes I just need to adjust my expectations and give it another try. That often works and I find myself enjoying it more the second or third time.
