I'm sure it is, but when I did compare them on the 1080p 55" screen, I couldn't tell the difference, but then my eyes are probably not as good as some of the people here? I'd say a blind test would be the best judge.

I plan on trying this soon with the Blade Runner UHD, since the BD in the package was not remastered like the UHD was.

It can happen with some discs but in general my experience has been good. The UHD higher bit rate compared to low BD rates makes a positive difference on a 1080p projector. Reasons to upgrade at the moment even if it is just the player and discs seem overwhelming to me. At least for the moment if you don't like the UHD you also get a BD disc.

BTW: I use a projector which is a very sharp 1080p and I see a big difference between the downconverted UHD discs and the BD. I am not sure how big the difference might be on smaller screens or projectors that have lens that aren't as sharp as mine..

It's going to be brutal then and an unfair comparison. Ideally you would compare a UHD vs a BD that come from the same master. It's almost guaranteed you'd like more the UHD, the blade runner BD is very old and is not that amazing by todays standards.

What I'm looking for is a way to watch the disc with the improved master until I can upgrade my TV to a 4K. I'm thinking that I could get a UHD player and watch the UHD disc in 1080p on my Panny plasma for now (instead of the BD with the old master).

Reading my post again I think may be I wasn't clear, I haven't seen the new Blade runner UHD but apparently it is a lot better than the old release so chances are it will look great on 1080 that is unless is one of those discs that don't convert to SDR very well.
