In the past I checked AudiogoN for used AVP's. Still look at AV Preamplifier News from time to time.

I am glad that your back has improved and I hope that you enjoy your return to the cinema. I'd like to go to the theater, too, but I am still pretty much under doctor imposed house arrest.

I have had
[Show spoiler]back problems ever since coming home from the hospital (I caught it from you ). I have been diagnosed with arthritis in the thoracic spine. Pain management is the only treatment for it or so I have been told. Just what I needed: more prescriptions.

Please give us a review of The Green Knight after you see it. I hope that it lives up to your expectations.

My previous AVR was a Denon; it served me well for 14 years. This time I decided to give Marantz a try and so far I am very happy with it.

I would like to do separates someday, too, but budget limitations nixed the idea this go around. If things ever settle down for me, I still want to get a subwoofer, but every time I get close to buying one, the proverbial rug gets pulled out from under me. I am beginning to think that I am not meant to ever own one.

I really liked the first Don't Breathe movie; please share your opinion after you see the sequel.

I don't know anything about either of these movies or my CRS has caused me to forget. I will have to look them up, but I'd like to hear what you both think after you see them. Have fun at the cinema!

Got an email from Fandango stating they were closing down and to use Vudu. Did not say anything about Fandango and their movie ticket purchase via the web.

FandangoNow Moving to Vudu

Quote:
FandangoNow, one of two TVOD services owned by Fandango, is moving to Vudu, the other Fandango TVOD service, according to an email sent to customers.

The email introduced the name Vudu Fandango. Fandango acquired Vudu from Walmart in April 2020.

“FandangoNow is moving to Vudu soon!” read the email. “We will soon be one bigger and better service, and still no subscription!”

The email promises “even more movies and TV shows, including thousands for free,” enhanced features such as Dolby Atmos and Dolby Vision, family-friendly options such as Kids Mode, disc-to-digital transfer, and the ability to watch content on more devices.
https://www.mediaplaynews.com/fandan...oving-to-vudu/

TVOD stands for transactional video on demand. TVOD is a VOD service that allows you to buy content on a pay-per-view basis.

It feels very much like insult has been added to injury with this added problem, but I will deal with it. I have made progress in far more important areas, so I can take comfort in that fact.

Receiver prices have definitely gone up. Bought a receiver last year for $350 and bought it again this year for $450. On the other hand I've noticed some nice sales on speakers lately so that's nice. On a related note I'll be changing my Atmos speakers from front height to on-ceiling soon. Really looking forward to that. I'll have to rewatch most of my collection with all the additions to my home theater system.

It will sound noticeably more cohesive when you have the atmos speakers in the ceiling.

Loved the first one. I cannot remember any other movie that made me want to take a shower afterwards like the first one did. Suspenseful as hell and then it took that turn.

Are you planning on picking up the GI Joe 4K releases? Bummed they donít have new audio tracks, but I still am thinking I will grab them at some point.

Yes but I will wait for a sale. They're not near the top of my list but wouldn't mind having them in 4K.

To tie in with the future of home media section of this thread, more on this Object Based Media/Object Based Broadcasting and Perceptive Media.

I am becoming more and more convinced this is going to infringe on film and Iím not sure if thatís a positive thing.

You are obsessing about this.

This topic is better suited for your recently created thread Object Based Broadcasting/Perceptive media, but as almost no one visits it you feel the need to bring it back here. I will help promote your thread and post the link here:

https://forum.blu-ray.com/showthread.php?t=341491

I am not going to comment about this a dozen more times; I already did that in your thread, but I will reiterate that OBB/Perceptive media is just another potential way to experience content.

Naturally, because it is something new you are afraid of it. It remains untested with audiences and therefore its popularity is entirely unproven, but we may as well start to about its impact on everything else now. My prediction is that it will have no adverse effect on traditional movies or TV shows. If you don't like this new concept, no one will force it upon you.

This ties in to the future of home media as it would affect the future of Digital and disc.

I did not say that this topic was inappropriate for this thread. I said it was "better suited" in the thread that you created for it. Posting about this topic in multiple threads is redundant and it demonstrates your obsession with this subject.

I also do not believe that it will have any significant impact on either digital distribution or physical media. It is an untested and unproven concept that at most represents another entertainment choice. You always get scared when we are potentially offered any new choices.

But then again, it is better served in this thread as we have many HT enthusiasts and obviously film fanatics.

Translation: "it is better served" here because people actually visit this thread.

With that, I'm done. Carry on. Spread the fear.
