Default VAVA VA-LT002 DLP 4K Ultra Short Throw Laser Projector Owner's Thread

Decided to pull the trigger on this somewhat promising UST laser pj. 2500 ANSI, native 4K, it accapts HDR signal, and the icing on the cake, it is now 3D ready!
I upgraded from my 2017 Xiaomi Mi pj which was the best buy in projectors I have ever made. Selling it was not an easy choice but I decided to give a US-based company a chance, especially considering the overwhelmingly positive feedback the first VAVA 4K UST laser projector has been getting.*
Once I have it set up with my 100" Elite Screens edge-free screen I'll take it for a test run and report back.
I don't think this pj departs much from Xiaomi and Fengmi projectors but the fact that it's sold by Amazon and that they have good national customer service gives me much needed peace of mind.

Sorry to burst your bubble, but the VAVA is not a native 4K projector. It uses a special form of pixel flashing to mimic 4K and create near 4K resolution.

I'm sure it still looks decent overall, but it isn't a true replacement for a native 4K setup.

The upcoming LS500 Laser Projection TV projector from Epson isn't native 4K either but it uses 3 chip LCD so there won't be any rainbow effect (it's more like a traditional projector in that sense). I have never owned a projector before but couldn't stand this rainbow effect: could notice it on the VAVA even from YouTube videos. So you might want to consider waiting for this Epson model instead.

I'll correct myself, it is a big step up from my previous Xiaomi 1080p projector. Rainbow effect is an individual thing and honestly I don't ever notice it with any DLP projectors.
Also, is the upcoming Epson projector a UST projector under $3000?

No, the list price is $5,000 for 100 in or $6,000 for 120 in.

Exactly. You are comparing apples to oranges here.
Vava is under $3000 and so far it blows away my previous Xiaomi UST projector.
I unpacked and set it up yesterday and overall it is a fine purchase, especially for a bedroom setting

This is truly a good display considering it is the first UST laser projector manufactured by VAVA.
It has its quircks but the bottom line is that it offers superior PQ to its competition in this price range, namely Xiaomi Mi. But with the added accountability of faster + more secure shipping and handling by Amazon and a reliable customer service, this is a no brainer for the best UST laser projector on a budget.

I ordered one a few days ago direct from the website ($200 off with labor day code). I've been looking at this, and a few other UST choices out there...chose this one. I'm kind of nervous about it. I found a website with some calibration settings I'm going to try out. I even bought my first standalone player (been using an xbox 360s).

I'm really hoping I didn't make a mistake with this.

I'm also hoping the 3D is amazing with a larger screen size than my 50" Samsung.

So wish they could do native 24p (48hz) vs the required progressive 3-2 pulldown needed for 60hz.

I keep watching the updates .. or even their next model .. with fingers crossed.

The 60Hz refresh rate is no big deal. Motion looks great.

Mine arrived today. Just doing the poor man's projection on a plain white drywall that isn't even really flat. /shrug.

It still looks really good to me, just not the eye poppin 4k that a great screen will help with.

I get 3D glasses delivered Saturday. That's one of the things I want to test out the most.

One thing I noticed is that "regular" blu rays have a slight audio delay when the 4K discs don't. No extra speakers, just what's part of the projector.

It does put out a lot of heat.

Just to confirm what's the firmware number you have currently?
Also, you're only getting 60% out of this projector's full potential without a dedicated UST screen

Where do you get that information? I understand that a UST screen will help in a non-dark room, but why would a normal screen or a white wall not allow the projector's full potential?

UST screens are 'directional' screens made of a special material that reflects light coming from below while deflecting light coming from above. This material is ideal for UST projectors based on the trajectory of the laser beam hitting the screen.

Firmware 1.91 is what it came with. One of the newer black colored models.
The 3D glasses came today. it works quite nicely!

I saw a graph about this in the last few days.
A UST screen is on my list, but for the immediate future, other things have higher priority.
