That's unfortunate, is this coming from MS or conjecture based on the 2-teraflop gap?

It was discussed in the Digital Foundry video on the previous page. They got to see it and discuss it with MS back in March this year but I dont think it was confirmed by MS.

The devs at Infinity Ward have expressed their concerns about the Series S bottlenecking next gen only titles. Will be interesting to see it that actually happens or not.

Xbox Series S will run Xbox One S versions of backwards compatible games and won't apply Xbox One X enhancements, Microsoft confirms

https://www.gamespew.com/2020/09/xbo...soft-confirms/

Quote:
“Xbox Series S was designed to be the most affordable next generation console and play next generation games at 1440P at 60fps. To deliver the highest quality backwards compatible experience consistent with the developer’s original intent, the Xbox Series S runs the Xbox One S version of backward compatible games while applying improved texture filtering, higher and more consistent frame rates, faster load times and Auto HDR.”

This says a lot about how it will handle next gen games

It's nuts, but theory is the 2gb less RAM causes issues as the One X makes use if those 2gb to perform the enhancements.

The Series S would be able to play next gen titles with features like Ray Tracing since it's built in to the hardware. My guess is they just didn't want to go back and optimise old games for the new hardware.

It's great news that MS is taking the time to optimize how the games are played on both systems. I don't think this has much bearing on how the Series S will handle new games built explicitly for the hardware.

Overall I'm really impressed with what MS has done on the hardware side, and I'm looking forward to a lot of games that Sony has in the pipeline. I've never been tempted to get two new consoles in the same launch window, but I am with these systems.

Ouch.

I think users will only have around 445GB of Free Storage.

Ya mine as well get a Series X if you care about storage. Or ya can spend $520US (Console + SSD expansion) to have 1.5TB.

Xbox Series S | X has Wi-Fi 5 (PS5 is rumored to have Wi-Fi 6)
Weight 9.8 lbs. for Series X and 4.25 lbs for Series S

With Xbox Series S, an Xbox Series S console, controller, Ultra High Speed HDMI cable, and power cord are included. You can add standalone purchases of Xbox Game Pass and the Seagate Storage Expansion Card for Xbox Series X | S for the complete experience.

FYI UK members, you can pre-order either Xbox on 22nd September from 8AM in the UK and a time to be confirmed elsewhere.

Xbox Series S/X preorders go live at 8 AM PT on Sept 22 according to Target https://bit.ly/2RyXpy8

Also heard that GameStop is opening early at 8 AM PT/9AM MT/10 AM CT/11 AM ET for Xbox Series S/X preorders, so this probably lines up for all other retailers

I'm new to gaming - I signed up for Game Pass on pc a month ago and bought a generic controller. PC can't play much but I'm learning on Moving Out and Super Lucky's Tale (no online playing, just me.)

Question: if I decide to buy an Xbox Series S here in Canada, what else do I need to buy?

I think I need to switch GP to GP for the console and do I buy something to charge the wireless controller?

Thanks!

If it is like the current controller it is 2 AA batteries, up to you when it comes down to disposable or rechargeable batteries.

That's good to know - it never occured to me it may take regular batteries if it's like the current one. Thank you!
