Default Anybody here still buy Desktop Computers?

I'm just curious to know if a lot of people here still buy Desktop Computers? The reason I ask is because it seems almost pointless to buy one at this day and age since laptops are so affordable now. I just can't imagine at these cheap prices now why anyone would opt to buy a big bulky PC and spending time hooking up a Desktop instead of buying a nice, compact laptop.

If my desktop died then I would buy another one, well have a custom one built for me,again.I had a laptop for a month or 2 but it's not what I need or want. There are people in this world who need a desktop and not a laptop.Choice is a good thing.Whatever works best for you.

Yes. I've always preferred having a "home base," so-to-speak. I feel more comfortable doing most tasks on a desktop computer....photo editing, video stuff, recording, etc. The bigger screen helps out a lot. Plus, a lot of laptops are heavy and annoying to carry in your bag. That's why I have an iMac in my bedroom and an iPad Pro for mobile/on-the-go use.

Remember....you get what you pay for. My good friend recently bragged about a laptop she bought at Walmart for $300. I took one look at it and could tell it was a POS, but on her budget, that was a steal.

To each their own, I guess.

I've always preferred desktop computers to laptops. I've had laptops before and have used them just to fool around with, while doing most of my major stuff on the desktop. The screens are bigger, the keyboards more comfortable, and I like having a mouse. I'll always choose a desktop over a laptop as my primary system.

If anything I would question why anyone has a laptop, they have officially been rendered near obsolete by ipad's imo.

Desktops will always have a place because people like me who use them as a tool for work cant get that with ipad's, laptops or those cute little things apple calls a desktop computer.

been building my own for quite a while, now. and i'll continue to do so as long as i can.

i've owned a laptop (got stolen), and i wouldn't mind having one, again. but i'll never get rid of my desktop. nothing beats a fast processor, a ginormous hard drive, a big/fast gpu, lots of ram, a full-size keyboard, a mouse, and multiple monitors.

I own 2 laptops and a desktop at the moment. The Desktop runs my media server and is where I do all/any important work related to video/music/photos. My laptops are used pretty much exclusively to surf the web and work on Microsoft Word. My current desktop is about 6 years old now if I remember correctly and I was just mentioning to my wife the other day about how I expected to need to upgrade it sometime in the near future with another one.

my thing with upgrading is i wanna buy all the good stuff...so it winds up costing well over $1000 (my last one was ~$1300).

I'm going to be buying my first ever desktop PC some time this year. I mainly plan on using it to digitize my vinyl collection but also want to start uploading videos to youtube. I have more confidence in a full-size PC being able to handle these tasks more efficiently, which is the same reason I'm going for a separate system as opposed to an all-in-one. A laptop is still viable for casual internet browsing in your living room while watching TV

I'm looking to buy a new desk top system.

I do a lot of photography and I want to get into more video work.

Display options are important for that kind of work. I want to be able to access large monitors and use a lot of external storage devices. Having a compact, portable computer doesn't serve my needs (do have a Chromebook for working on the net).

Just because laptops are less expensive now doesn't mean everybody should rush out and replace their desktops. I have two desktops and if they were to die, I'd buy another one. I like them and I've never really considered a laptop because I'm happy with what I have.

Given the choice of interacting on a Desktop or Laptop -- 99:1 I choose the Desktop.

Better monitor, keyboard, reliability, cooling, customization, etc.

Would I buy one? No, but I'd probably build/assemble another just like the last 4.
Laptops are nice for portable use/travel, but I'd probably quit 90% of my computer use if I had to use one for everyday use (probably not the worst idea anyway).

Desktop. To me there is no other option. I'm a bit older (51), so I feel no need to be connected all the time with a cell phone, smart phone, or laptop. I own none of these. I sit at my computer desk & do computer things. I sit in my recliner & read or watch movies & I sleep in my bed with no distractions. My one thing is sometimes I'll watch a movie on my computer if I'm too lazy to put it on a thumb drive to play on TV.

this is sort of how i am; although i do own a smart phone. BUT, it's not glued to my face 20 hours out of the day like i see with some people. i can't watch movies on something that small. hell, i really don't like watching movies on my computer. but sometimes i get lazy, too, and don't wanna fire up the ht.

Desktops are way more powerful than laptops. More customization, more powerful graphics cards. I build my desktops which is fun. I also have a bunch of media on it that I can cast to my tv. Laptops cannot possibly ever catch up physically to a desktop.

could not agree more. there ARE some rather powerful laptops out there...but they pale in comparison to the most powerful laptops.

It's only a matter of time before tower PCs (aka desktops) are phased out in favor of smaller gadgets. The smaller the better. I don't like it but it's happened to most every technology.
