Indeed. On a positive note, that screenshot reminds me I need to watch Serenity again.

The menu thing does bother me a little, but the thing that gets me the most is the bar that pops up after you pause the movie! I guess it's for bookmarks or some other useless feature(we already have chapters)

But hey, I really can't complain as I rarely ever pause it and the menu only stays up for a few seconds before the movie. At least Universal is consistently putting out excellent picture and audio quality on all of their releases.

A DVD or BD menu is important. Unfortunately, not everyone knows how to make a good one. For example, a lot of movies will ruin its story for you if you watch the menu long enough.

The best menu I've seen is LOTR. It didn't show anything.. but it fit with the film.

This menu from Universal looks like the generic Blu-ray menu. Like Universal is thinking, "with this menu, people will know it a BD movie". Personally, I love films with a small menu and start the movie right now. But to each their own! Sure you don't get HD audio by default but let's be honest... the majority of people will never hear lossless audio.

Are you suggesting three jpgs at under 50k each are too many images in a post? If you are, I would say that it should be helpful to post samples for those who haven't noticed or picked up Universal discs.

just be glad they include both versions.....plus the menus are simple and sleek....I like em....easy to navigate through

Exactly - when I see a movie coming out is being released by Universal - I know I'm going to get a stellar blu-ray release.

I just hate when menus are designed by some studios with "too much". I don't need the whole screen to change, contort, expand and shrink every time I scroll past an option. Some of these designers go over the top.

I'm good with the simplicity for the most part. I would hope Uni is open to changing the menu's if the directors are vocal about specific requests in design.

Now if only the studios could get rid of those black bars on the top and bottom of the screen!

i dont think there were too many. the OP was supporting his point using a few examples, and ive seen so many more threads where people post several incredibly large images and it's impossible to see the entire thing without scrolling. now that gets annoying.

I like Universal's consistent approach! I like that I'm not having to figure out a whole new menu system for each and every disc.

I'd certainly much rather these were identical that WARNER BROS. method of not giving us a menu at all!!!!

I'm not sure why people choose to form their opinion based on what they do as far as work goes. I actually think it looks nice. It looks clean, consistent and straight to the point. Wether or not we get frustrated with taking the time to make sure that the movie is either rated or un-rated then that itself is a different subject. All that matters is when you press play you get your money's worth.

Being a previous HD-DVD owner these menus are an improvment. At least they have some video in the menu. The HD-DVD just said Universal on the menu. I like them because they are clean, consistant, and easy to navigate, but I like the Criterion menus the best.

It should go without saying that people who work in the field of graphic design would obsess a bit more over graphic design. Some of my friends do nothing but create interface menus. How could you not have an opinion influenced by your work and experience?

The truth is, while the menus bug me, the post was meant in fun. It seems those who disagree take things a bit more seriously than I do. No one is wrong for enjoying the menus. No one is wrong for being aggravated by them.

haha, their menu's was one of the (idiotic) talking points as to why HD DVD would win the war.. misguided fools

On topic: As long as the movie plays I don't care what the menu looks like.

i love the menus for universal. they're some of the best. fox has the best, but univeral's are second best to me. i hate warner's menus cause they're so bland and so droll looking. nothing going on. universal's is sharp, consistent, and clear. what a blu-ray menu should be.
