Default Playing AVCHD directly from external harddrive to HD TV

Can anyone provide advice on how I can play my AVCHD video stored on a external hardrive directly to a HD TV via bluray or ?. I've stored video footage on an external haddrive that I've recorded on my sony CX12 camcorder. I've been burning AVCHD dvd's from the AVCHD video footage stored on the external harddrive and playing them on my bluray(avchd compatible) players. The quality and playback is smooth and excellent. I want to connect the external harddrive up to the bluray player and not have to burn dvd's to put into the bluray player. I tried connecting the external harddrive to the bluray's usb port but it doesn't recognize the harddrive. Can anyone provides suggestion?

Try this.
It's a Western Digital TV HD Media player. It plays MTS files. You don't have to ditch your HDD - just connect it to the USB port on this unit for playback.

Thank You! Thank You!

I purchased one of these last year. For whatever reason, it didn't work properly. I'm not sure if the version that I had was a HD (high definition) compatible. Although, after reading the links that you provided and the reveiws that were available, I think this version is exactly what I've been looking for. I'm going to purchase one tomorrow. I'll let you know how it works out. Are you using one of these?

I bought one about a month ago.

I love it! It plays just about anything...well, I mainly stick to .vob, .mpeg., .avi, .H264 files, but no issues whatsoever.

And its so freakin small, the HDMI cable actually looks to big for it.

I paired it with a 500GB Western Digital Passport. I highly recommend one of these little guys because it does not need an external power cable, its powered by the usb connection.

Are you using yours to playback HD video shot from a HD camcorder. If so, are you getting thumbnails for your video clips. I've called tech support and read through a few forum threads, and it appears as if thumbnail support is not available for .m2ts files, only .mp4 and .jpg. It will play .m2ts with no problem -- as a matter of fact, the quality is excellent. But, it will not automatically create thumbnails for the .m2ts video clips. Instead, the thumbnail is a default icon with the file name under it. I prefer picture icons from the video scene. Any advice?

yeah I use PMS and TVersity for the PS3.

This device is for use with a standalone HDD and just about any TV/Monitor.

I have it for my son to put all his stuff on it, for when we travel. No need to lug around my PS3 and/or PC!

Thanks for the Help! I decided to purchase it again. The version that I purchased about a year ago wasn't HD. Thanks!

Other than the lack of Automatic thumbnails for the .m2ts files, this thing is excellent. I've seen it as low as $99.00. It's extremely small, the video quailty is excellent, and it has a user interface equivalent to the sony ps3. Unlike my .m2ts files, my music and photos files all have automatic generated thumbnails. If you go to the web site they're constantly providing firmware updates to include fixes and features based on user feedback. This thing is nice, and at the going price anyone with an external harddrive loaded with video, music and photos would want to have one. Best of all it's "Plug and Play"! Great for parties and family "get togethers" of any sort.

sorry, I do not play any .m2ts files, so I am not sure about thumbnails...

Im sure if you pressure them enough they will update with firmware!

I probably would not say "equivalent" to the PS3.

Granted, it is a pretty easy system to use...the PS3 interface is much easier.
