Default Blu-ray burners

If I wanted to buy an blue ray burner, What would be the cheapest and best one to buy? I was thinking about buying an external blue ray burner since I would not have to open up my computer and void my hardware warranty with dell.

What's blue ray? I've never heard of it, maybe your talking about Blu-ray...lol, Here's a decently priced Lite-On. What model of Dell do you have? That's a strict warranty.

A good trick to know about internal drives, if you've got some extra bread buy yourself an external cd burner when you get your Internal BD drive, crack open the case on the External and gut the cd drive from within and replace it with your Internal BD burner. A hop, skip and jump later and you've got yourself your very own Martha Stewart approved External Blu-ray drive of you're liking. This works because all optical drives run on a global protocal, and since the back of the external shell contains an IDE to USB converter. As long as you get an IDE connected Internal Blu-ray drive there are no compatability issues. I know this seems pointless when there are already External BD drives on the market, but you might be able to get an internal drive cheaper, plus there are more on the market, so you might be saving money overall and get a spare CD drive while you're at it.

Happy Hunting

How is this useful? All I'm seeing are pictures with no specs whatsoever. Or am I missing something?

I agree, the drive section of this site isn't very useful. I like seeing the pictures but there should be specs too. I love the site but there are areas that need improvements.

Do any/all of these drives do BD-50? I was shopping them at Frys for my new PC build (E6850 Core 2 Duo, 4GB of 1066DDR2, 8800GTX, etc) and saw plenty of mention of 25GB but no mention of 50. Frys does have Sony and Pioneer (IIRC) BD-50 blanks, too....

I would most likely begin my experimentation on 25GB BD-RE, but would plan to move on to 50GB BD-R...

And what's the fastest burning? Any beyond 2x yet? Looks like the Drives link only shows pictures which will be behind a drive flap, so I don't care what it looks like.

Plextor has one. http://www.plextor.com/english/products/px-b900a.html

Plextor has been THE name in burners and players. Many people just don't know that. They receive many product awards.

I'm considering that baby.
