Arrived:

Violet Evergarden The Movie Limited Edition 4K HDR/2K Blu-ray, How Heavy are the Dumbbells You Lift? Manga Volume 11, and CANDY AND CIGARETTES Manga Volume 4.

Of course the filler box meant to go in the tv series LE is trashed because it’s on the outside. Other then that multiple slipcovers and a chipboard slipbox is nice.

Does anyone know if the Violet Evergarden movie has the same errors in the subtitle script as the All the Anime release? If not, I might double dip.

Violet Evergarden: The Movie from RightStuf. I still haven't seen the series, I still need the UK Blu-rays and a region-free player as I treat the FUNimation TV series release as a dub-only one due to the TV version and reusing the Netflix translation (I pre-ordered before that news hit). I want to see the series subbed first.

I wouldn't know, but one thing I noticed, the standard edition Blu-ray has NO special features as advertised. I don't know if they're on the 4K as I currently don't yet have a 4K Blu-ray player. Not too happy about this even though they're not particularly important extras, but are standard fare you see quite often, like clean OP/EDs. There's also no English credits of any kind (ending and disc credits) unless there's some in the subtitles.

The standard edition regular Blu-ray also advertises these extras.

[Edit]Just came across this. Well then...

Does it at least use Funimation's usual style for subtitling? I'm also very interested to know whether it's an original translation from Funi like the Side Story film, rather than reusing the sub par Netflix script or questionable Front Row Filmed one that's on the UK BD/UHD.

Thanks for sharing a photo of the pin! When did you place the order that qualified for the pin promotion?

I placed an order for an in-stock item over $50 on 5/21 and just opened the box today and there was no pin, even though it displayed a message when I put the item in my cart that I had met the promotion. I understand these quantities were "limited," but they were still promoting the pin 3 days after my order in an email from 5/24.

I just sent them a message and hopefully, they can send me a pin and won't just say "sorry, we ran out." I probably wouldn't have placed the order that day had it not been for the extra incentive of the pin.

I ordered the Magia Record and A-ko 4 Blu-rays on the 19th. I was just putting together another possible order on Thursday for multiple pre-orders but with one in stock item in it, and I noticed the pin offer popped up on the order page again for me, but I haven't placed an actual order yet. It's a good thing I didn't though, because I got two 15% off codes on the cards that came with each package yesterday. I'd rather use one of those than get a second pin.

I'm kinda on a Detective Conan binge and decided to get movies 20-25 on Bluray, why 20-25 and not any of the others? No idea.

Because of the big ugly age rating they come with a flip cover.

I expected the regular cover without the age rating but what they did is very different.

Doesn't look like it. Also, unlike most anime Blu-rays, this one you can't use the d-pad on the PS3 to fastforward or reverse, I have to use the actual fastforward and reverse buttons on my PS3's media remote. IIRC, this is also how Shout! Factory's Blu-rays work.

Also Netflix botched the translation again, and the UK release was similar or worse? Don't tell me this series remains cursed. Years later I'm still crushed by the news of how the TV series was handled by FUNimation, and then after hearing about the initial UK release's problems, I almost broke down and downloaded fansubs then and there.

The below issues were reported with the subtitle script for the UK release of the Violet Evergarden movie.

1) At 00:58:57 Violet gives the thumbs up at the end of the visit with the sick kid at the hospital and the subs show "About your feet..." instead of "About your fee..."

Let's just say that kinda pulls you out of the moment and ruins what would have been an endearing punchline.

2) At 01:13:52 They just arrived on the island and are about to see the Major. Subs read "It seems like they don't have names here," when what was actually meant was that the Major doesn't use his real name here.

After spotting the first mistake I tried paying more attention with the rudimentary Japanese that I know, but it seemed fine except for point #2. There might have been other obvious issues before the first one that slipped me since I wasn't as focus, but probably someone actually fluent would be able to add to this list.

It's disappointing since I specifically wanted the UK release because they had the fixed subs for the tv series. I'll contact them later on to let them know, but I doubt they'll do anything to fix this, unless someone is able to provide a much longer list of issues or that many complain. I wonder if the eventual US release will have the same subs, corrected ones or perhaps even worst ones?

The UK BD/UHD uses the translation from Front Row Filmed, a distributor for MENA territories. I personally found the TL a bit too literal and stiff, whilst also having bloody annoying editing. They also produced a hilariously badly dubbed version of the film which is more or less the subtitle script word for word.

From the font used, it looks extremely likely that the Funi BD remuxes the encode from the UK BD by Anime Limited (albeit with a different menu), which is good from a video perspective as it was encoded by VDMS, but maybe less so from a subtitle one. The Japanese audio should also be 7.1 rather than the 5.1 stated on the back of the box. This would also explain why there's no extras as the encode is like 45gb, and as a result the disc only contained the film, menu and distributor logo.

The UHD also contained no extras, despite being on a BD 100 with an 87gb encode, so I wonder if they also repurposed VDMS's encode from the UK UHD with a new menu. I imagine that is the case, as I can't imagine Funi going out of their way to do their own encode especially considering they'd require software that can handle both Atmos and Dolby Vision. Kinda wonder if the advertised extras are actually included, or whether someone just didn't proof check the packaging.

And this series remains cursed, gawdammit. I have to wonder what things would have been like if Netflix hadn't licensed it.

Also, I just noticed this, but for some reason the case itself still has the FUNimation logo on the spine.
