Yes that is also the high water mark (pun intended!) unfortunately according to most who have seen it…that’s not to say the movie sucks after that but it never quite reaches the emotional peak that it hits during that musical number….not imo…I’ll judge for myself in less than 24 hours…

I mean it's fair to say that's the peak in the original too. It's just too good of a song for anything else in the movie to compare to it. But I think they do a better job balancing the rest of the movie, compared to how the original did it.

Just got back from watching this in 3D and the 3D is excellent. Fabulous work from Rob Marshall, and DNEG in the 3D conversion, they really put in the time and effort and delivered a phenomenal 3D experience from start to finish, with plenty of pop-outs and depth. The underwater sequences are literally in strong 3D throughout with fish, aquatic plants and numerous objects coming out of the screen, and medium-strong 3D above the surface.

As for the film itself, I haven't seen the original animated film and this live-action remake was enjoyable. It has great performances, music and visuals, and it's made to be seen in 3D, so I highly recommend everyone to watch this in 3D, it's a visual treat in 3D that can't be missed.

And this needs a 3D Blu-ray release. It would be a shame if this gets the flat treatment especially after The Way of Water's 3D Blu-ray release, so here's hoping this and new Disney 3D films get a 3D Blu-ray release in major markets post-ATWOW.

The only place around me with a premium 3d format is a 3d XD, even though Dolby and Imax have had 3d showings for DS2 and others recently. Not too bad since I gave it an 8/10 vs 9/10 for single laser Imax 3d and 10/10 for Dolby 3d. Just have to drive an hour, and the only day me and the wife can go is Monday with a little less than ideal seats left. I wasn't going to see this one in theaters and just pray for a disc or "re-mastered" version down the road, but you guys got me excited for it!

I wish IMAX 3D was given as an option, but unfortunately seems to be a choice between 2D IMAX (I read that the film has IMAX sequences) and 3D on a letterboxed screen. So I’ll probably end up opting for IMAX even though it would be nice to see it in 3D. However, don’t have long to watch it in IMAX, as Across the Spider-Verse will be taking over its screens next week!

Has anyone located IMAX 3D showtimes in other territories? There’s none in the US, even after the 3D trailer played in IMAX with every 3D release except for Guardians 3, which IMAX only does for films they intend to screen in 3D. The IMAX expanded presentation was announced so late that I wonder if it was a last-minute addition and there wasn’t time to convert the expanded footage to 3D. Hence why there are limited Dolby Cinema 3D showtimes, as a compromise.

The film is playing in IMAX 3D in India and Australia.

India (Mumbai only, you can change the location to any major city and IMAX 3D showtimes will be presented, including Trivandrum, the IMAX in my state): https://in.bookmyshow.com/buytickets...30-MT/20230527

Australia: https://imaxmelbourne.com.au/movie/t...tle-mermaid-3d

Well, there goes half my theory.

I still suspect a domestic IMAX 3D release was initially planned and then cancelled, possibly due to IMAX screens being split between TLM and Fast 10, with a limited Dolby Cinema 3D release added as a compromise.

It counts in my book….especially if this movie comes out on 3D bluray then even your skeptical self would have to admit to it meaning something

Well, they say that the 3rd time is the charm. So, today I watched the movie for the 3rd time in as many days, and it just keeps getting better and better with each viewing.

This was my first time in 3D, though. It was actually a 3D 4DX showing, and it was definitely a glorious experience.

(I sat smack in the middle of the 6th row from the screen)

I would have to agree with everyone else here, this is really an outstanding conversion and it makes everything look even more beautiful and gorgeous than it is in the regular 2D version. So many things just pop out of the screen and seem to have a more clearly defined volume.

So far, my favourite versions have been 3D 4DX Dolby Cinema, but I'm still making my way through all of the premium format versions available, which I hope to complete very soon.

I don't know what it is but this movie really just gets better the more I watch it, Halle seems even more captivating and more princess-like and of course, her voice is absolutely heavenly. Also, those locs, which are really to die for.

The cast is just outstanding all around, I have been particularly impressed by Art Malik (you may remember him playing the baddie in True Lies; he has also been in The Living Daylights and John Carter) as Eric's trusty primer minister, and of course the Oscar-winning Javier Bardem who makes for a formidable King Triton. He really has a regal bearing to bring to the part, and you know you wouldn't want to make him angry! Noma Dumezweni is a name you might remember from Mary Poppins Returns, and she's just royally magnificent as the Queen. Lorena Andrea as Princess Perla has also left a very nice impression. I still remember her from Papillon.

I'm also getting more into the new songs which have been added for this latest version. I feel like each of them are pretty important at establishing the character who sings them and/or advancing the plot, and in that regard I am glad they got rid of the old song that was sung by the chef in the royal castle, it didn't really move anything forward nor did it help us to know any character better. As such, I consider the new version to be a significant improvement over the version we came to know in 1989. "Scuttlebutt" is a particularly infectious song, and from what I hear it is becoming pretty popular with kids.

It's really heartening to know that this is getting such good ratings from audiences, it really seems like one of the most eagerly-anticipated of all the remakes from Disney and this time, it seems like they really hit the bulls-eye. I'm really impressed that Rob Marshall has surpassed some of his earlier work here, and in all honesty I liked this better than Chicago.

Cool. Yes, when I saw the live-action Little Mermaid 3D trailer before Avatar 2 3D in December 2022, strong 3D layering in that first teaser trailer (on first page) and was hopeful for this one in theaters. Great to hear the positive thoughts on the 3D so far, thanks for your early reports!

I'll try to check this out in 3D theaters this weekend. Halle Bailey has a great voice IMO, so that also helps. If this was in 2D, I'd probably pass, but the strong 3D reviews are great news. For the 3D, now just needs a combo blu ray 3D disc/4k release from Disney Japan at least.

Chicago.
I don't get it. That is the absolute pinnacle blend of premium formats. Maybe if the Dolby Cinema was replaced by one of the few ultra-premium dual-laser giant Imax screens it would eek out first place. I don't think one exists that has 4DX and is playing TLM in 3d, though. So you got the cream of the crop! How could it get any better? I'm a little jealous lol

Never heard of 3D 4dx DolbyCinema…I believe that doesn’t exist…the photo clearly indicates 4Dx—not DolbyCinema…

Ive watched movies in 4dx and DolbyCinema and the projectors in DolbyCinema are vastly superior to those in 4dx theaters—not even close to discerning connoisseurs of 4k laser projection …

That said 4dx is better than most average theaters and the added “effects” do offer a “different” experience…many people find these effects annoying & distracting and take away from enjoying the movie but others like Blu love them…

Closing the loop, I watched TLM in 3D DolbyCinema today and it did not disappoint—and I went in with relatively high expectations…not only was the movie itself very well done, the 3D was medium-strong for most of the ~135minute runtime…one of Disney’s best live action 3d films….here’s hoping we get a 3d bluray!

That was just a missing comma. Obviously the 3D 4DX and the Dolby Cinema were two separate things. Loved both of them, naturally.

It's an absolute crime if this doesn't receive a 3D blu-ray release.
