Yeah, as someone who never bought the previous "Extended Blu-ray Collector's Edition," the exclusion of the previous special features on the upcoming "Ultimate Collector's Edition" UHD -- in conjunction with the inclusion of new special features on the UHD -- means to actually possess the ultimate collector's edition I have to buy both the previous collector's edition BD and the new ultimate collector's edition UHD. And this of course isn't confusing at all! Luckily, the previous BD collector's edition can be found cheaply.

And nobody should get too excited about The Abyss and True Lies. Those will be altered with DNR, color tonal shifts, etc. If you want the original versions of those films, you'll have to hold onto your DVDs.

I'm not so certain of this. Do you expect physical media sales to hold on till 2029, which is the earliest a full-series box set could be released to market? I'm unsure (I'm ambivalent, tbh). Maybe, but six years is still a long time away. And to just assume that in 2029 that's when they will make it right and include everything in a lavish box...it just seems so quixotic to me.

Streaming is dropping dead these days, so yeah, physical media will be on the rebound, just like Vinyl came back.

No no no I think your 5% number is a bit off, I think its more in the 3.7%-3.9% range.....

They should just move operations to the United States because underpaid American workers can put discs in boxes better than the underpaid Mexican workers....but at least well know it was done in the USA and that will give us a warm and fuzzy feeling which will justify the 25% price hike.

People have been telling me that since I was a kid. Guess what’s still kicking around, with an additional format that hadn’t even existed yet! It’ll still be around by then. Said the same about ebooks too, that market never overtook print books. I think in the end, people like having something physical for their favorites.

Lol, few? A good amount of my Mexican-pressed discs arrive scratched out of the case.

I agree there will be a niche vinyl style market for movie discs for many years, but the difficulties with streaming services we see written about a lot today are pretty unrelated. I don't think average Joe Sixpack is ever gonna buy a movie on disc again.

The issues with streaming services will be countered with an increased theatrical/rental focus and some kind of consolidation of services or changing of expectations to fight content overload.

Vinyl is a niche, so are physical media these days, especially UHD. Most people don't even know what good old Blu-ray is.

I'm very interested in this....But since it's Disney and it's a 3-disc set, my guess is that the discs will be stacked. And since it's Disney, they will also insist on stacking the 4K disc on top of one of the Blu-rays instead of just putting it on its own spindle.
