Movie Trilogy version is better than the original series for the original Gundam.

Wing is overrated and very boring. Not the worst Gundam, but very dull. Only saving grace was the fact that Takehito Koyasu played the main "villain"- but even then, his excellent voice can't save bad writing.

Unfortunately, if you're planning on going on past Zeta Gundam, a sizeable majority of Gundam Unicorn directly references ZZ Gundam, with a lot of the suits that appear in Unicorn being repaints of ones from ZZ, as well as one of the most prominent characters basically being from ZZ. You don't need to watch ZZ for Char's Counterattack, but you most definitely need to watch it in order to fully appreciate Unicorn.

I like ZZ personally. The tone at the beginning is real weird and it such a clash with the end of Zeta, but I think it really picks up as you get farther into the series.

Also, if you watch the original series in series or movie form, 0083 bridges the events between that and Zeta.

I hate ZZ, but ya gotta admit, the openings/endings were badass. Classic.

All the UC OVA series are must-watches.

The OG trilogy was a real slog for me to get through, but it was worth it to understand Zeta. It just has to be done.

What? The majority of references are to Char's Counterattack, save for like one or two characters (without spoiling anything) I agree with you on the suits, but only the hardcore mecha enthusiast are going to get moist seeing a Byarlant, even google has a hard time figuring out what suit I'm talking about.

ZZ op/ed are tight though.

My next Gundam purchase seems to be a choice between ZZ and Victoly. Which is the least bad?

ZZ. Victory starts out okay but by the end is an unwatchable mess with characters being killed every 5 minutes with no explanation nor development. It's what almost killed the Gundam franchise.

Thanks. It's the logical aquisition anyway. I'll be buying everything eventually, of course. Except the one that shall not be named.

This scene sums up EVERYTHING wrong with what you're referring to:

Me, I'd go Victory, but prepare for misery with either.

ZZ starts off goofy and super sentai hot swap mobile suits, and, groan, "Gundam Team". Then it laughably tries to pull a 180 and go super dark. The ZZ Gundam is also gross and has a useless multi unit transformation. (Hold that thought for a moment.)

Victory has uglier character designs, and arguably more frustrating characters. They decided to model the enemy suits after bugs of all things, and the last arc is a contrived mess. And useless transformations. Sigh, the gundam in this series is so fragile. It has a core fighter, upper, and lower part. Either the top or bottom part gets grazed, explodes, and they have to launch off the missing part out. Over and over again.

I wouldn't pay full price for either.

I assume you have Turn A already?

If you hold Z in high regard, it would be an interesting torture experiment to see the existing characters get manhandled by the script.

I do have Turn A, and I think it’s weird AF

I still need to get the movie trilogy (I have the 1979 series), Igloo, Victoly, ZZ, Mobile Fighter, Seeds, Age and season two of IBO. I don’t plan to buy movie mixes that add little or nothing. There’s still a ways to go...

Yes, the dub for Wing is groan-inducing. It's a product of it's Toonami time, when every new dub was filled with "Try hard!" actors, annoying surfer/skater voices, and the show itself is so trope-laden anyway that it's a chore to watch, regardless of whatever language you watch it in, though watching it in Spanish might be a hoot for ten minutes.

Even in Japanese it’s still a bore. Can’t improve bad writing to begin with. Though, there’s this- probably the best thing in the dub. So funny:

Yeah, that character always sounded like he was ten seconds from crapping his pants and having a seizure and the actor was clearly a "Try hard!" or was allowed to take things to 11, because it was made for Toonami.

General Septim is on the so bad it's good level. My favorite thing about it is that the role was uncredited and no one really knows for sure who it was. Plenty of guesses out there though.

Guess i'm in the minority as Wing was my 1st love with gundam. Through toonami i also saw the OG Gundam, Mobile Fighter G and Endless Waltz. I admit it has lots of flaws and a lot of the episode could have just been cut/skipped, making the show shorter and flow better. Zeta is my all time favorite though, with Mobile Fighter G being a close 2nd. I still have a soft spot for Wing though as it was the 1st gundam i ever owned.
