No problems with my European imports. So my suggestion is to take disc manufacturing and packing out of Mexico.

I think they should fire Debbie Brown or something.

Yea, definitely they should move disc manufacturing from Mexico and implement better handling procedures.

Arrow and Indicator, in my experience, never have scratched discs.

The perpetrators are always SF, Sony, and Criterion.

So moving from Mexico to someplace else is a possible solution -- Sony, Shout, Disney (most definitely on scratch watch), Criterion, and possibly Warner, Kino, Universal discs

Where are the other options, could those plants conceivably handle the increase volume maintaining (for sake of argument) better results, and what would the increase cost be

I'm seriously not even sure what other replication plants exist anymore.

The Mexico plant is the only remaining plant in North America. There used to be double digit plants, but they all shut down as physical media started dying. I believe there are 3 more in other regions to serve other continents. The only real solution is to re-open more plants, but that's not going to happen.

I did know the Vantiva (TC/Thomson) Mexico plant was the only one left in the Western Hemisphere - and at best coming out of Chapter 15 Bankruptcy Restructuring

EU/Asia was what i'm missing -- Last I remember there were BD/UHD/DVD plants in France, Austria, Poland. Surely there had to more plants in Asia/Japn/AUS, but I'm not sure if any Region A or B discs originated there.

Which Sony plants press Home Movie discs vs only CD, Vinyl, games is fuzzy

There's a plant in Germany too, all my Paramount BDs for the last year or so have said "Disc(s) Made In Germany."

Perhaps that plant doesn't do Sony discs, however.

Got a new copy of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood that said "Discs made in Mexico and USA" on the back. There's a plant here in the USA doing them still but I don't know which. They're not taking on big production runs it seems. I'd wager they did the included Blu and not the UHD though. Neither disc came scratched!

Bought mine from blowitouttahere a month ago but it hasn't moved in tracking since 3 Feb; they've just refunded me. In that time, SC announced City of Lost Children in the UK, so I've decided to just get individual releases of the others I'm interested in via eBay (already bagged Orlando).

At least I won't have to find space for another big box set

Same here. Just grabbed a 4K Sony Edition of TCOLC from eBay. Will just hold on to my old Blu-ray edition as a backup.

I abhor these big box sets but I like that Sony had the decency to house each title in their own plastic case with a slip so that those who want to sell their set piecemeal could do so. And someone like me could benefit!

Here are some images of the TCOLC I bought on eBay:

I wonder if Sony's strategy going forward is going to be to cycle in and out of production these big sets and their steelbook rereleases to extract the maximum dollar amount per release, rather then doing big runs that end up at $5 in the bargain bin. Not a bad business strategy IMO.

Is it likely that this sold enough to justify a second collection?

*sigh* looks like I missed the coupon. I've had this set on my list for a while now and I keep waiting for a deal, yet when it came, I missed it... darn.

Indeed!
And is there anyway of knowing upfront what'll be in that 2nd Box?

(Same question goes for those 'Columbia Classics Collections' and the '100 Years of Warner', or is that last one with the 30 titles a one of a kind thing?)

May this be the sign that somewhere in the near future we will find ALL our titles on 4K UHD discs?

Every time I buy a Blu-Ray Tout Court lately, I wonder how long I should have waited for a 4K UHD to come along.

Wait a few years, well, it's not like I have nothing to watch in the meantime...

I wish I shared the optimism of the poster above, but I just don't.

This was a special collection for the 30th anniversary of Sony Classics. They put a ton of titles in this box, nearly twice as many as one of those Sony sets.

That suggests, to me, that this is a one-off.

UHD sales are still small. Yes, we'll get big blockbuster titles on UHD eventually from some studios, but there's zero chance that every title, or even anything near a majority of titles, released on BD will ever reach UHD before the studios give up on discs entirely some years down the road.

Just saw Synecdoche, New York. What a disappointment, the PQ. It looks like upscaled 1080p
