All the clips in the season 1 opening sequence were taken from the episodes themselves, except for RDA's credit shot which was made especially for this purpose (during the filming of "Last Stand").

If it's only in SD, I guess they didn't manage to locate the original film stock of that extra footage.

Looking forward to watching the episodes in HD, but I'll have to wait until the Blu-ray set is released in the UK later this month.

Correct. I just received my copy, and the original audio is Dolby Digital, as opposed to lossless, which is very disappointing. Still, these kinds of releases are now so rare that I would have to say it shouldn't keep anyone from buying the set.

Hopefully, CBS can provide LPCM or DTS-HD MA Mono (later Stereo) on future seasons, then go back and provide a new version of the first season with lossless in the future.

I dont think HD Sound would sound any better on those TV Shows. I dont think the source material fits hd audio

Well we won't know unless the lossless track is made available.

While I would've preferred lossless - heck, just doubling the DD bitrate from 192 to 384 kb/s would've been fine, and wouldn't have adversely affected the encoding at all - I'm not losing any sleep over it. Ditto for no widescreen. OG 4:3 ratio with OG audio, someone pinch me as I must be dreaming!

I can only speak for myself, but yes, this is indeed really special for Mac fans. I'm the admin of the German MacGyver forum and getting a remaster of the show has always been considered about 99 % unlikely due to the video master and the need to go back to the original negatives.

(Also, there's not really a place to talk about this in German anymore since the biggest German home video forum at Cinefacts has been closed a while back.

So I haven't seen this in years and see the UK set is priced at £35 which doesn't seem like a bar price. How well has the show held up?

I don't agree on the "less is more" philosophy. I grew up watching MacGyver on USA and WGN which had the earlier season episodes cut down to 45 minutes. When I saw the unedited DVD's for the first time with all the new scenes, my mind was blown.

Just because we grew up without the Czech version scenes and/or widescreen format is no excuse not to include them.

To me, a perfect remaster should be 16:9, include everything that was ever cut out, including Jerrold Freedman's 90 minute pilot.

Alternate takes, goofs, and mistakes which CBS has shown us does clearly exist -- those things would have been good for special features.

At the very bare minimum, I expect CBS to replace Disc 1 for a blemish-free Gauntlet episode.

Nah, man. Make waves because of this minor issue and all that'll be achieved is they'll cancel the rest of the series. The PQ looks great, episodes are the full-length broadcast versions (so far). I want to see this through to the end, not have it suffer the same fate as I Love Lucy.

Thanks man at that price it's a no brainer. I must start looking at Zoom more for orders never used them but heard lots of good things about them.
