My new theater build has begun...

I didn't realize you were a local KC guy. Unfortunately, I've done a terrible job be involved in the local HT group and associated outings etc.

David sold me his JTR S-2. I drove from KC to Chicago and back....on the road by 5am and returned to my house at 9pm. It was worth it.

Some images of the soffit as it is. I am going to get the front moved up to the next joist. As it is, my lights (which will be in the soffit) would be right on top of the screen.

HVAC was installed Friday. Not sure anyone cares to see that.

Electrical and plumbing for the bathroom should start next week.

I need to get the rest of my speaker wire ran, and some ethernet to where my rack will be.

Ran a few speaker cable runs, and installed some smurf tube for potential future speakers.

Electrical is starting today.

Electrical rough in is complete.

Now it's time for the biggie...plumbing.

This is something I know the least about, so it scares me the most. I've been trying to learn as much as I can so I can make sure it gets done correctly. Trying to head off any issues if possible.

Once that rough in is done, then we can have our first inspection.

Looks great so far.....did you do duplicate runs of all wires and cables? Since it looks like everything will be behind the drywall, I totally recommend that. When and if one no longer works, you will already have another run capable and ready to use with minimal effort on your part. It is worth the little hassle now than what may come up later. Keep up the good work and good luck with the plumbing, I am not comfortable with that either.

I still have a few to run (side surrounds). I haven't ran duplicates but I have also ran smurf tube to some locations I feel would be more difficult. And some spots will be fairly easy to run if needed, since I used the sides of the I-beam as sort of a channel.

The rears I'm not worried about at all since the other side of the back wall is unfinished space that the back of my equipment rack will share.

Not directly related to the theater, as this was for the bathroom, but here's a bit of the plumbing. Guy that was helping wasn't capable with the under slab and venting, so I had another crew come in. They knocked that out quick. Then the other guy came in and ran the PEX for supply. He didn't do a great job, kind of the bare minimum. But, at least it's done now.

Plastic up for when sawing the concrete. Didn't help much. Upstairs was still covered in dust. Forgot to shut off the furnace and block the returns in the basement before that started.



This was after the initial concrete was cutout and dug down to where the cleanout met the main pipe exiting the house.



That went way back, under the wall, so it scared the first guy out. Then the other guys came in and dug some more.



Leaving a nice pile of rock and concrete.




Got the drainage in for everything and rock filled in (had to dig some back out for the inspection).



And got the venting in.



Then the PEX (see how sloppy some of it is?). He didn't even attach the piece for the shower head. Just left it hanging there.









I had two inspections today for the under slab, and the general rough in. I failed on the rough-in due to some missing fire blocking in a few spots. Should be a quick fix, hopefully done this weekend.

After that, it's time to put some new concrete down and do the insulation.

Insulation is pretty much in. Inspection is tomorrow.

After that, the shower base needs installed in the bathroom, and then it's time for drywall!

Well, it's been a little slow going as of late.

Follow up inspection went fine, and everything is ready for the shower install and drywall.

Had to get all the drywall delivered, as well as the material for my stage and riser. Basically anything that is large. We have to remove the larger window in order to get that stuff in the basement, so I had to make sure I had it all on hand so we only have to do it once.

Unfortunately, during the drywall delivery, I was putting the smaller items (compound and cement board) into the garage, and I think I slipped a disc in my back. I've been in quite a bit of pain for about 12 days now. I'm starting to move around a lot better, but the pain is transferring to my knee, which is very uncomfortable.



My contractor also had other work he was doing, so he hasn't been able to begin the next step yet. He was hoping to start tomorrow or Friday, but it depends on the weather since materials need to go outside to the back window. Can't have the drywall getting rained on.

Anyways, here's some images of the insulation (some of which I had to correct, as they were lazy and didn't cut out around outlets and that sort of thing).

I got my fabric in for all the panels that will go in later. I have black velvet to cover at least the front half of the room, and then some dark gray and blue to use for the areas between the columns in the back half. I haven't decided fully how I'll arrange the colors yet.

Right now I'm trying to finalize my flooring in the non-theater area. Carpet on the stairs to match what is in the house already, and then vinyl planks for everything else.

The carpet in the theater will be imported from the UK. A very black wool blend luxury carpet that is extremely expensive. It's the blackest, least reflective carpet I could find.

Looks like you are going all in with your build. More than likely you get only 1 time in your life to complete a build this big....doing it right is imperative, but it appears you have a good hold on what you need to do. Looks great so far.....if I had the $$, I have all kind of ideas I would like to do with a space like yours. Keep up the good work!

Remember to do multiple runs of your cables/wires when running everything in the walls. As things do happen, having that extra run will save a ton of hassle later.
