It's a shame that Sony's previous cameras didn't get more love as the F55 and 8K F65 were pretty badass, and as they didn't have Bayer sensors you actually got BETTER colour separation from them. In that respect the Venice range is a step back as it uses a Bayer array, albeit with a larger VV-sized sensor with more photosites, but it's no different from any other major camera brand being mentioned here so isn't a negative development in itself.

And by the way, according to Sony's own Q&A https://sonycine.com/articles/your-v...ions-answered/ the Venice and Venice 2 actually share the same colourimetry and in-built filters (apart from the OLPF) anyway!

Absurd argument is absurd.

Cameron doesn't care what any of us have to say on the matter. The man has literally created his own world.

We received the trailers last night, to my surprise they are not encrypted so you can immediately watch them and as I suspected it’s a shortened one so more like a teaser trailer, it runs for 1 min and 43 seconds. Will watch both 2D and 3D versions in about 5 hrs or so from now.

99.9% of cinema goers neither know nor care what cameras are used in the making of any film. They just want to be entertained.

True, but they do care about the results. It's like editing and sound design, you only notice it when it's done badly.

All I know is that my mind is aflutter with notions of color science whenever I'm in the theater watching anything.

I miss 35mm. 99.9% of the population couldn’t care less though. Now, if you’re writing that Cameron is a better technician than storyteller, your argument could have some merit.

how do you measure good storytelling? if it's not box office numbers or popularity, what is it? in terms of craftsmanship i think cameron knows his limitations as a storyteller, which is why he sticks to pitches that fit a napkin. but the way he does it is flawless. people didn't flock to theaters for titanic because or despite it's spectacle but because in the end the storytelling worked extraordinarily well. and i would say the same about avatar. i don't separate spectacle from storytelling, visuals from narrative. it's more like everything visual serves the narrative. and if it demands big scale cgi, if that's what the story is, so be it.

I watched both the 3D and 2D Flat trailers, man the 2D one does not do justice to this, 3D trailer is f***ng amazing!!! I cant wait to see this movie. The underwater scenes in RealD equipment already looked amazing imagine in HFR and laser projection!

Nope. Most still just want to be entertained and couldn't give a tiny rats arse about editing, camera model, lighting, grain, etc etc. I'm a part of this forum so I do (to an extent) but the tiny details do not add to box office, they add to quality. The masses eat up entertainment, not an attention to detail.

I may have to pivot my viewing of DSITMOM from 2D to 3D on the basis of this.

Oh, believe me, I miss 35mm, too. Count me as part of that 0.1%. Film is still the best format. My digital debate is completely divorced from what I truly consider the best out there. It's sad Cameron abandoned it just because he wants to use 3D.

You don't. Good storytelling is subjective. You can only measure things that are objective.

What will help Avatar 2, 3, 4, 5 in theaters will be the strong, showcase 3D and entertainment value and basic story of these emotional characters battling each other.

I imagine more humans will begin to side with the Na'vi and other creature humanoids, to help turn the tide in the end their way, even if their species become extinct from humankind's greed.

Interesting that Cameron would be going back to scope. Maybe there will be multiple aspect ratios like there was for the first film? I would at least expect the IMAX version to be opened up to 1.90.

Trailer leaked in obvious low quality and it’s very much giving “…that’s it?”
