Mauler in particular would just nitpick EVERY SINGLE thing that would happen, and "analyze" the film as it went. So you'd get complaints like "why did X character make this choice that clearly helps the bad guys" when the twist of the film would be X character was a villain. But he'd be so up his ass that he'd argue the character was poorly written because he's pausing every scene to analyze instead of waiting to see where the story goes, never getting the bigger picture.

The worst part? These idiot grifters have massive audiences. They make piles of cash off donations, patreon, etc, to sit there and *****. It's sad.
Mauler is fun, but his reviews are often longer than the films being reviewed. As I recall, his Doctor Strange 2 video was 5 hours long. So he's only watchable IMO when he's on curated livestreams as the guy is a rambler when left unchecked.

The idea isn't that people watch these "Fandom Menace" types and then start hating most modern movies, it's that people realize on their own that most modern movies aren't as good as what came before, and that brings them organically into steaming "FM"

It blows my mind how mind-bogglingly idiotic all forms of mainstream journalism has become. This wouldn't have even made it out of the editing department of the high school I attended.

Absolute amateur hour at Variety.

The point?

There's lots of examples of sequels that took a decade or longer to appear. Bladerunner, Mad Max, Godfather, etc etc.

Welp, I'm excited.

Was just asked to attend a screening tomorrow. Followed by a Q&A with JC.

Interested to see what the reviews look like in full for this! I guess we'll find out next week, but I don't think it will change my excitement for the film at all. Only negative reaction I've seen is from The Guardian in the UK...I think they didn't care for the original either.

They don't particularly care about a lot of films either if you really think about it! See for example their Encanto review and their 20th anniversary analysis of Shrek saying "it was always terrible"

Difference is: nobody expected them to get another one. Avatar 2 was obvious from the first month of the 1st movie's release.

Unfortunately, no IMAX 3-D in our future, as, we're just not willing to schlep into Manhattan with the chairs when it's supposed to be a bit of sleet and absolutely frigid this coming weekend, so, it'll be the local theater in Real3D (with no HFR) for us.

A bit unfortunate, but, it be what it be. Still really excited.

That's the kind of review I trust, as the first Avatar was a pretty awful movie, boring for sure, so all the reviews this week calling the sequel the greatest thing ever I have to ignore, cause so many years ago they almost all told me the same thing about the original.
