Default No Manís Sky coming to Xbox.

https://www.eurogamer.net/amp/2018-0...ng-on-xbox-one

Quote:
Hello Games has announced that its ever-expanding space exploration sim No Man's Sky will get its next big update this summer, and will also be heading to Xbox One.

The new update has been given the name NEXT, because, says Hello Games' Sean Murray, "it's an important next step on a longer journey for us and the community." No Man's Sky previous update, Atlas Rises, launched in August last year.
Quote:
When it launches this summer, No Man's Sky NEXT will be free to existing players. Murray says, "we'll continue to support No Man's Sky in this way for the foreseeable future".
Quote:
Perhaps more notable is the announcement that No Man's Sky is heading to Xbox One, marking an end to its PlayStation 4 console exclusivity. The Xbox One version will include all previous updates, as well as the new NEXT update at launch, and will be enhanced for Xbox One X with HDR and 4K support. A physical edition will be released worldwide by 505 Games.

I hadn't touched No Man's Sky in about 6 months. My wife comes into the living room a couple of weeks ago asking questions about buying another PS4 so we can play NMS together when NEXT drops. Took me a little by surprise. I turned her around and told her we should buy another Xbox One S.
I actually ended up buying a One X. It will be nice to set out on a new mission with someone I know instead of all alone.
Even if the fun only lasts for a few weeks with her in the game at least I got an X out of the deal.

I don't own an Xbox One, but I'm glad to hear No Man's Sky is coming out for it. Someday I may want an Xbox One, and No Man's Sky looks awesome (I watched gameplay on YouTube). The reviews for the game are interesting, because they are all so varied. The reviews usually range from mixed to good.

I read No Man's Sky gets updates and that is good. It means the makers are helping improve the game. Hopefully these updates fix some of issues reviewers mention with the game, and help make the game great.

Xbox is getting this game at a good point in it's life; it has everything it should have had at launch on PS4. So if you're completely new to NMS, give it a go.

That's very true. Maybe Xbox owner's perspective on the game will be different from PS4/PC owners who played it at launch.

Update sounds pretty comprehensive.

https://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2...-update-is-big

Quote:
The first, most striking aspect of NEXT is, unsurprisingly, its visual overhaul - and, as the recent trailer will attest, it's genuinely remarkable just how different No Man's Sky looks. Its massively improved lighting, better atmospheric effects, and increased draw distances, alongside a gorgeous new cloud rendering system, improved textures, better water, an optional new third-person camera, and more, combine to create a much more subtle aesthetic.
Quote:
Perhaps more than anything though, it's the newfound sense of scale that impresses, with the game now sporting a more "earth-like" planetary generation system. Mountains tower above undulating valleys, populated by looming trees, larger architectural "props", and notably improved fauna. Creatures feature more nuanced animations, improved AI, and a broader range of sounds, all of which help sell the illusion of life just that little bit harder.
Quote:
Now, not only do you get a ship in the opening hour, you're given access to the the likes of the terraformer - enabling you to shape the earth at will, useful for carving out spots for bases or escaping a planet's harsh environment - as well as access to base building. Notably too, freighters - the vast starships that essentially act as giant, portable bases - are no longer the domain of the super rich, but will arrive early on as a freebie.
Quote:
Additionally, your freighter is where you'll encounter the new frigate system. This wasn't a feature I saw myself during my playtime, but is described as something like Monster Hunter's Palico system. You can buy frigates - up to 50 in a fleet, which will be visible around your freighter - and each can have its own specialisations. Frigates are sent on procedurally generated missions which play out in real-time, and can be followed across the galaxy or simply left to complete their mission, reaping the rewards of a successful adventure.
Quote:
Freighters are also home to the new procedurally-generated multiplayer quest system. Now, you're able to form wings and set out across the galaxy, working together to complete the likes of dogfighting missions and more. And speaking of multiplayer, it's impressive just how well integrated it is, feeing like a natural extension of the experience, rather than something awkwardly bolted onto the existing core.
Quote:
NEXT's additions go much further though: building has received a major overhaul, with a greater focus on construction using individual pieces (floors, walls, ceilings, etc.) to make more elaborate, more distinct rooms and layouts - and I was especially taken with the way room pieces now automatically carve out the landscape, meaning it's easy to build cosy planetary bases underground, straight into the rock.
Quote:
And, of course, with restrictions lifted in terms of base size and placement - you can now build anywhere on a planet - there's much greater scope for creativity. What's more, you can finally have multiple bases
And they're still not done.

Quote:
And speaking of things to come, Hello Games has one last surprise in the form of its post-launch plans for NEXT. With three massive updates under its belt, the team is keen to adopt a schedule of smaller, regular updates, to ensure a consistent run of new experiences. To that end, it's implementing something akin to a live events programme, in which players can work to achieve certain community goals in order to earn a second currency that can be spent in a new in-game rewards shop.
Quote:
That's still not all though; this will be joined by a new Galaxy map system, enabling players to scrutinise No Man's Sky from afar. It's a way of highlighting just how much of a living, changing space it is, thanks in large part to the tireless efforts of the game's remarkably engaged community.

One thing I wish/hope Hello Games will do in the future is give us the ability to fortify our bases. It'd be cool if we could add gun turrets, anti-aircraft weapons, land mines, etc.

I was hoping for waterfalls and volcanoes. Doesn't sound like that's going to happen but I still cannot wait for Tuesday.

Wow. Major changes to the space station layouts. Custom character editor. Pretty cool. Can't wait!

The wife and I spent about 3 hours on a new game playing together from the start on XBox ones last night.

(The game plays much smoother on the XBox One than it ever did on the PS4 so if you have a choice, go X-Box One. We experienced no problems with staying connected and didn't have one crash.)

I had her start a game and then I joined it. We started within a few hundred steps of each other and our two disabled ships were right next to each other. We worked together to gather items and craft parts to repair our ships and gear and we were on our way. Multiplayer worked great for us. We divided up the work of gathering items and since you can give each other items we made short work of it.

We made our way to the space station so we could check out all that is new there, and we changed our appearances of course. To be continued....
(That's me on the right).

Did you originally play on PS4 standard or Pro? I never encountered those issues with my Pro.

PS4 standard. This game really seems to push the limits on it. And man, the fans work super hard while I am playing NMS. Xbox one S and X on the other hand, totally silent and smooth running.

So is anyone else playing No Man's Sky on XBox?

I am about 150 hours in on my game and still playing with my wife on her game.

While still not perfect, this game runs so much better on the XBox One than it ever did on the PS4 original system.

The game looks pretty darn good too with the Xbox One X.

I have been working hard on my 2nd real base in Normal mode. I put in a lot of hours shooting rocks and trees to build this. I also finished my last Milestone in Normal mode after scanning all creatures on 10 planets (whew).

I think my combined hours played on PS4 and now Xbox has to be over 600 and I still can't wait to play some more. I know it's not the game for everyone but I am loving it.
