I have a long-standing rule of never judging a transfer on movies from the pre-DI era until the opening credits have finished.

Well thank you now I know this. See even the littlest details count with a new format & that’s greatly appreciated. For real, no joke.

And if ever you get a scene with subtitles or location captions - even if they're now player generated - then don't be surprised if the quality sags somewhat there too.

Yes because Disney has been so terrible with releasing catalog titles.

Like any studio, they don't have anything announced until they announce it.

Do you really think Disney bought Fox for any other reason than to beef up titles for their streaming service?

Other than Marvel and their classic animated slate, what have they been giving us? Anything from Touchstone? From Hollywood Pictures? I wish I could be optimistic, but all signs seem to point to Disney Plus being their focus

Streaming was the main target, no doubt. But to think that Disney will completely stop catalog disc production, especially for a keystone franchise like Die Hard, is just panicking. They're still threatening to make that sixth DH movie so Disney/Fox is likely holding off on the UHD sequels/boxset til then. We got the first one for the anniversary.

That hardly gives me any hope. 2015 is technically catalog, but barely. Plus it falls directly in line with promoting their endless series of live action remakes. I hope I'm wrong
[Show spoiler]but I'm supremely confident that I'm not.

You could say the same about the 5th Indiana Jones film that Spielberg is supposedly doing after West Side Story.

Indy 5 is Disney though, with 1-4 still owned by Paramount, so I doubt we'll ever get a box set of those.

Yes, I do. Plus, Fox doesn't have a wealth of kid-friendly movies that Disney didn't already own. So outside of Star Wars, I don't see many other movies that are really kid-friendly Fox has that Disney wants. Fox was looking to sell and Disney wanted their Marvel properties back. Plain and simple. Among other things. Though, this wasn't about streaming. Disney is going to have a rough start with its streaming service. People are so used to having it all under one roof that when they have to start subscribing a la carte they're probably going to balk. They've been used to the "super-sized value meals" that I'm not sure the 'a la carte" thing is going work. I could be wrong, but I don't foresee streaming completely running physical media out of town. It's not that grim. Yes, Disney is being bullish about their catalog releases on 4K. No different than before. They always do this. Relax, kiddo. We're good.

They're not going for just kid-friendly films. The goal is to wipe out Netflix. They have made it clear that they want to appeal to different age groups. Including their Marvel series' into the MCU cannon all but guarantees that they won't have a "rough start". Sorry, Kiddo, but Disney is giving me no reason to relax.
