I don’t see how it could be bogus. Looks like it’s real to me.

This could look like an upscaled DVD and I'll still buy it.
Sorry for my honesty ....

There's a fake anamorphic DVD released in China that upscales the old non-anamorphic transfer, why not just get that now?

It’s going to be funny when this doesn’t get released like it already hadn’t been.

I am sure that took at least a couple of hours of shooting.

He did say he was going to be doing an HDR pass while authoring the DI for bluray in 2016, so it really should be true that the UHD is coming out now...

Even if its just the theatrical cut and he scorches the contrast I'll be buying it at this point

I tried to watch my old non-anamorphic DVD, it was unwatchable.

I'm not vouching for it; I'm just saying if that's your only standard, it can be had today and for a lot less than this UHD will cost.

The DVD really was abysmal. I knew nothing about different aspect ratios (beyond widescreen and fullscreen) then and even I could tell it was FUBAR and unwatchable.

The Director's Cut is it now. The extra sections were hot spliced back into the theatrical cut elements in the 90's. Could they try and re-assemble both cuts digitally...? Anything is possible now.

I'm a huge fan of the Abyss. Saw the film at the cinema in 1989. And I have the original VHS release, and the Special Edition 2-Disc DVD set, which even came with a decent colour booklet about the film. It's one of my all time favourite releases from the DVD days.

The Special Edition DVD set had extensive behind the scenes extras. And for nostalgia, I'll still be glad to own it after I buy the 4K on Day 1 of release.

Of course the film is crying out for crystal clear HD. And we'll get that. But I see no need to bash past releases.

$10 says it will be a 4K iTunes exclusive for five years and then end up being the last title ever released on UHD-BD, except it will only be released in Japan and cost US equivalent of $200 before importing. That's the sort of luck we have with JC films.
