Default A Christmas Carol (BBC 2019)

The BBC has a new version this year. Three episodes, consecutive nights from the 22nd. FX will broadcast in the US. The ghost of Christmas future was to have been played by Rutger Hauer

That looks seriously dark! More than happy to add another adaptation of Dicken's classic to the list, already watched ACC 2009 with Jim Carrey, the 1951 film with Alistair Sim, and we tend to leave The Muppet Christmas Carol to last.

The Muppet Christmas Carol is a Christmas staple and fond favourite of mine, but I am going to watch this new adaptation.

I've got mixed feelings about this. I'm always keen on ANY version of Dickens' story (watched three of them already so far this December) and I rate Pearce and Serkis. But I thought Peaky Blinders was over-stylised claptrap which failed to keep me amused.

Am going to check out the first episode, and then decide if I'll watch the rest. Never seen an episode of Peaky Blinders, but have seen clips and trailers of it, including local news stories when they were filming at the Black Country Living Museum.

I watched on BBC Two or BBC Four last Christmas an adaptation of A Christmas Carol, which was basically Simon Callow speaking to the camera telling the story. There was also a one-off ghost story with Callow as well.

I want them to do A Cockney Christmas Carol with Alan Ford as Scrooge.

Bob: Merry Christmas Mr, Scrooge
Scrooge: What's merry about it, you ****!

I feel it's the only re-imagining we haven't had yet!

Ross Kemp beat him to it as inner city loan shark Eddie Scrooge in ITV's 2000 version. It all kicks off when someone pops a cap in Jake Marley's ass.

Crikey, how did that one pass me by? I think Amazon.com might be slightly misrepresenting this film to US viewers!

Considering one of the ghosts crawls Ringu-style from a TV screen, I think they just might be.

It's even got Alf Garnett himself, Warren Mitchell, as Scrooge's dad, who doubles as the Ghost of Christmas Past.

Yeah I saw his name in the cast list and just new he had to be playing Kemp's father! It's just classic UK TV "baldy actor" logic innit? Definitely gonna try to get hold of this, not sure if I could stream it off amazon.com if I use a VPN and set my location as US. UK search results seem a bit ropey!
