Yep. The problem with DNR isn’t just that it removes detail, it’s that it fundamentally alters the appearance of film, regardless of what detail is retained. It looks like shit to me no matter what.

And to think Disney will be in charge of Star Wars in 4K..... makes me sick even thinking about how they may butcher the OT.

At least they arent in charge of Lord of the Rings so they cant screw those UHDs up, lol.
It could have been better 100%. But I still thought overall it looked good. There is a lot more detail in the image than before the HDR/WCG looks great. It would be a good buy on sale. The audio was very good for the most part. I don’t think it’s a travesty.

Thank you.

Wow, I am on top of weekly deals like nuts and this one was absolutely buried in a place where I have never seen them before. That coupons section was even blank the first time I clicked it. Didn't show up until after a couple tries. Unreal.

You're telling me! I told my wife I use the cartwheel app every time we shop but I don't check the coupons, I keep forgetting so now I have to check each week because these pop up. Target also seems to have deals for movies on their website but you have to hunt them down because you won't see it in the ad or anywhere else. It's bizarre.

If I "upgraded" the Ultimate Edition Blu-ray, some dorky things I'd miss (aside from the aforementioned bonus disc and film grain) would include the bookmarks I placed for "I am Iron Man" and the post-credits scene.

This just tells me Disney doesn’t care about physical media any longer & their main focus will be on Disney Plus. I still say within 5 years or maybe less Disney will do away with physical media & other studios will follow. Which for the record I am totally against.

Yeah, maybe. As I’ve said, there is no reason why these titles shouldn’t be slam dunk upgrades in every regard. They have the equipment, money, whatever they need to do it right. Instead, in such a typically corporate manner is they went bare minimum with the transfer and then scrubbed it with digital sandpaper at the end. It’s what you’d expect for some b-grade horror film coming from a garage operation running on a shoestring budget.

And.... Disney owns a LOT of content now which just scares me regarding future UHD releases. Like Star Wars. Ugh.

For those that bought it and are satisfied: that’s cool. Enjoy. The rest of us simply won’t buy it unless its at some giveaway price. Even then I’ll probably skip it and the other films in the series. Oh well. Not the end of the world.

Gave this one a quick spin today. I recall the old blu-ray being rather grainy and washed out..surprised this wasn't the case now. Grain is there but very nicely resolved and blacks however poorer they are, still not that bad. I guess having much better equipment nowdays really makes a difference. DNR on the UHD is nothing like that awful melting butler. Normal watching distance plays a part too I guess. You also get the benefit of HDR. Are we being charged more than it's worth? Yes. I fully understand those who don't want to upgrade..
