Default Rumors of a GameCube Classic Edition

https://www.techradar.com/news/ninte...e-classic-mini

Nintendo has been raking it in with its ever-popular retro console revivals and it seems the company has plans for a GameCube Classic Mini as well.

Nintendo has applied for three new GameCube trademarks in Japan related to video game programs and video game machines according to a Japanese Nintendo report. Supposedly the trademarks are strictly related to ‘video gaming’ and not ‘general merchandising,’ which leads us to believe this mini GameCube won’t just be a piece of memorabilia, but a working console.

If the trademarks lead to an actual GameCube Classic Edition, we imagine that Super Smash Bros Melee, Luigi’s Mansion, Pikmin, Super Mario Sunshine, The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and Metroid Prime could all be suitable choices for pre-loaded games. Outside of Nintendo’s own franchises there are also plenty of third-party hits such as Beyond Good and Evil, Soulcalibur II, Skies of Arcadia, Viewtiful Joe and Resident Evil 4 that made a big splash on the original GameCube.

My question is, how much smaller can the GameCube get? These Classics have so far all been miniature versions of themselves. The NES (re-release*) and SNES Classics use the same board, so if they continue this practice of recycling the board, they really couldn’t go smaller. Unless Nintendo got a smaller board, but that would mean added production cost and time, and limited stock.

*original 2016 release of the NES Classic used a different board.

They’re going to need a pretty powerful board to run GameCube well. I mean, they haven’t even done a N64 classic yet, probably because of the same reason.

Eternal darkness maybe??

I would like to see this happen as i never had a Gamecube (my sister did but I went to PS2 after N64) I do wonder how much it would cost though, the memory would also need to be increased significantly to accommodate the larger game size too so even more cost to be passed on

A Game Cube Mini would have one of the strongest lineups yet imho.

This is the sort of realistic list they will work from to make the final list of titles for the GC Mini

1080° Avalanche
Animal Crossing
Baten Kaitos Origins
Chibi-Robo!
Doshin the Giant
Eternal Darkness: Sanity's Requiem
F-Zero GX
Final Fantasy Crystal Chronicles
Fire Emblem: Path of Radiance
Geist
Gotcha Force
Kirby_Air_Ride
The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess
The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker
Luigi's Mansion
Mario Golf: Toadstool Tour
Mario Kart: Double Dash
Mario Party 4
Mario Party 5
Mario Party 6
Mario Party 7
Mario Power Tennis
Mario Superstar Baseball
Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes
Mega Man X: Command Mission
Metroid Prime
Metroid Prime 2: Echoes
P.N.03
Pikmin
Pikmin 2
Star Fox Adventures
Star Fox: Assault
Super Mario Strikers
Super Mario Sunshine
Super Smash Bros. Melee
Wario World
WarioWare, Inc.: Mega Party Game$

I'd rather just have gamecube titles on the switch if I'm being honest. It'll cost more in the long run but the added portability far outweighs the gimmick to me.

Assuming it'll be just like 10 games, I would like to see:

Melee
Sunshine
Wind Waker
Pikmin
Animal Crossing
Double Dash
Strikers
Luigi's Mansion
Metroid Prime
Kirby Air Ride

I would like GC games on the Switch as well but having a “classic” would be ideal as an offline plug & play option.

I just want Ultimate Spider-man to be available as a download on current consoles. That was the only Game Cube game I ever played and I only ever played it on the Wii.

The patents might be for using GameCube controllers on the Switch, especially with Smash coming out in the winter.
