Default Analogue announces Super Nt

Analogue has announced the Super Nt, a successor to its Nt and Nt Mini NES consoles. If you're unfamiliar with the older Nts, they're essentially HDMI-capable NESes. The Nt used repurposed parts from original NESes, but the Nt mini used an FPGA to replicate the hardware exactly without using software emulation. The Super Nt also uses an FPGA, and claims to support the entire SNES and Super Famicom library.

Quote:
A reimagining of perhaps the greatest video game system of all time. Engineered with an FPGA. No emulation. 1080p. Zero lag. Total accuracy. The Super Nt is not a plug n' play toy. It is the definitive way to explore Nintendo's 16-bit era. Compatible with the 2,200+ SNES and Super Famicom game cartridge library. Explore and re-live one of the greatest video game systems of all time with no compromises.

I really wish there was a VGA output option. As much as they say "zero lag" from HDMI I'm still not certain. This is still on my radar though.

It is tempting. If I were to get one, I'd likely go for the European colors.

I think the reasoning was that most people would care more about HDMI, and they wanted to make sure the console wasn't nearly $500 like the Nt mini, so they cut the analog output out and went for a plastic shell instead of aluminum. It sucks for CRT fans (and it's ironic, considering the name of the company), but I suppose that if you're going for a CRT anyway, you might as well just get an HD Retrovision component cable for your SNES and use that.

The Super Nt will include a Director's Cut of Super Turrican. Previously released on a 4 Mbit cartridge, this new version will be upgraded to 6 Mbits and include a stage and boss that were cut from the original game.

Here's the trailer from the new version. Take that epilepsy warning seriously.

Analogue has announced that it will be producing a digital to analog converter that will work with the Super Nt and future Analogue products. It will plug into the HDMI port, and support RGB, component, composite, S-Video, "and probably more" with no lag. No price or release date was announced, but Analogue promises the price will be "reasonable."
