Awesome, hopefully that means Disney will jump onboard soon.

Isn't this a fox film like deadpool?

Just so everyone knows, he says the uhd version is the preferred version of the movie

Deadpool and Xmen is also marvel but go through fox, so just making sure.

Let's hope it don't sit around forever unused. Star wars the force awakens was also given an hdr grading pass for the home, but will go unused for a while it seems.

I'll be pleasantly surprised if they just dip their toes in with a 4K streaming option.

Disney has Marvel but they don't control them. Think of Marvel as its own studio. Same with Lucasfilm. Why else would the Disney logo not show up on these films?

Also, they mention Stephen Strange in conversation in one of the last two movies, Civil War or Age of Ultron. So there may be some tie-in going down the road.

Eh...a UHD master is one thing but a UHD disc is quite another. I'll celebrate when I see it happen, and not before! I think it'll take an act of sorcery and magic to even get Disney to release their stuff on 4K.

Also (spoilers for Dr. Strange)
[Show spoiler]In the mid-credit scene of Dr Strange, he is having a conversation with Thor, talking about helping him out, so I think we'll see him pop up in Thor: Ragnarok as well.

Disney has been archiving HDR home grades for awhile now, probably since they started releasing movies in Dolby Cinema. Here's an old post of mine:

At the 30:42 mark, Ben Rosenblatt of Bad Robot, who is there talking about the Star Wars: The Force Awakens HDR versions, says they just recently finished their "home video HDR pass..." While not an official announcement of a UHD version, it's nice to know it's being worked on.

https://youtu.be/1MOHArypsUQ?t=30m42s

Also interesting, right after that, Thad Beier of Dolby said that while doing the HDR grade, they realized some images were clipped, so they re-scanned some scenes for HDR.
He also uploaded videos of the First Forays: High Dynamic Range in Animation panel. This one included people from Pixar's Inside Out and Disney's Zootopia. During the Q&A at the end, the question of home HDR comes up. They reiterate that Disney has no plans for home versions of HDR content as of yet, but they have already created a home HDR pass of Zootopia, and they are currently working on Inside Out's home HDR pass. And interestingly, they say that the theatrical HDR grades do not directly translate to home. They need specific home grades, which can have greater highlights and contrast.

Here is the Q&A in the 2nd video starting at the 14:29 mark:

The question isn't if, but when? Disney still hasn't made any mention of when they will jump in. It seems they are quite content to stockpile their content and wait. For what, I have no idea.

Pretty sure 3D will be more essential than 4K on this one.

Same reason it doesn't show up on Touchstone or other studio releases that they own. Branding. Both ways. they want to keep the Disney brand for their all-ages family fare.

Marvel, Lucasfilm and Pixar are all quite definitely "controlled" by Disney to the extent Disney feels is necessary to maintain product quality and profitability. And it is subject to change over time.

Agreed. I'm usually pretty underwhelmed with 3D on Marvel titles but this one was an exception. The interdimension scenes were pretty awesome.
