The individual fan control is pretty cool, but the sensors are nothing new really. Even my old 6870's have VRM temp sensors. When I switched from my 7970 GHz to my GTX 970 it always bothered my why it didn't have VRM temp sensors.

I really feel that this should have been held for the 1080Ti.

I have a feeling this came about because of the cooling issues they had with the ACX cooled models which lacked vrm cooling. They had to RMA them or provide owners with thermal pads to install themselves. I feel this should have been done from the beginning.

Good news though, they're offering a trade in program for the FTW and SC models with the ACX cooler. For $99 bucks those owners can trade their card in for this version which resets the 3 year warranty and the step up program offer. Source.
