I hope this is no silly prank. Hopefully it'll be getting a new Atmos or DTS:X mix as well but knowing 20th Century Fox with their track record regarding audio on 4K catalog titles, it may end up being just good old DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1.

It's been said already but I'm praying that this isn't another T2 DNR debacle, and if it isn't then that'll prove Reverse Jim completely and utterly wrong about El Jefe Cameron's sudden desire to DNR the shit out of everything in sight.

The T2 DNR was due to Studio Canal being lazy bungholes and making the UHD from the 3D conversion. Since there is no 3D conversion for The Abyss, I'd say we should be safe.

It’s funny, I couldn’t sleep last night and was flicking through channels and True Lies was on, I thought to myself that it and the Abyss would never get a release and now I’m reading this.

I'm just wondering, am I the only one who has never seen this movie? Saw some bits and pieces throughout the years but I can't even remember those.

Just never got around of watching this in full for some reason. Guess an UHD would be a good opportunity to make up for that.

Mark my words, this uhd is going to be T2 uhd smoooooooth. And ultra clear, in the non - grain, videoish way. I would bet the farm today it will come out this way. Either way, I'm excited to see how the cg holds up under 4K, 21st century home video scrutiny.

Getting a T2 smoothed one would be so much better than what we have officially released by miles and miles.

If they really wanted lulz, do it as a Walmart Exclusive Barebones DVD from the 4k master presented in the incorrect aspect ratio with heavy DNR.

Unless it's getting a 3D theatrical release to go with it, I don't see why it would be DNR'd to the extent that Terminator 2 was. Forrest Gump at most.

I've never actually gotten around to seeing this film, and with this release having been talked about for so long, held off on buying the dvd. Glad to see it may actually happen.

I so hope there is truth to this, it would be simply awesome to have The Abyss on 4K BD!

As for the transfer, I have no concerns, seeing as I enjoy 4K BD-transfers as diverse (with a view to grain/DNR etc) as T2 and Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

Me neither! I've seen a few minutes at a time here and there on television but I've been waiting for it to come to blu-ray and then 4K UHD and it never has.
