I asked shout if they could put Resurrection on blu next to go with this movie, they said they would think about it. This and resurrection are my 2 favorite Lambert films.

Yea, this is above and beyond what I thought could be done for this release.

I guess the only thing I wanted was a short Christopher Lambert interview, but that's me being greedy.

I was honestly stoked just to have this on blu ray. Never thought it would get one.

Still waiting on Gunmen (1993). Which also stars Denis Leary, Patrick Stewart and Mario Van Peebles.

Ugh! Everytime I see this thread pop up I keep thinking it's an announcement for 2003's The Hunted.

I’ve only vaguely seen this many years ago, so my memories of it are pretty faint, but I seem to remember liking it. As somebody who loves The Yakuza, Black Rain and Year of the Dragon, do you think I’d enjoy this? I’m really tempted to give it a go, but it isn’t cheap to import, so I’d rather be a bit more sure that I think I’ll like it.

I think you'll like it. This film has one of my all-time favorite action sequences (The train fight).

Wow is not often you see a workprint ever included and even less so from Indie labels as its alot harder for them to clear stuff.

Now if only they could do Hard Target and try and find a better condition workprint in the Universal archives than what floating around on the net. Though i dout it will happen as the workprint for HT has lots of temp score from other movies which would be a ***** to clear.

I'm pretty excited about this one. I've always adored this movie, samurai vs ninjas battling it out in a modern but foreign setting blew me away as a kid. Is it bad that time has not lessened my enjoyment of it? I dunno, but I still liked it when I watched it last a few years ago.

I wasn't expecting a Blu release since I rarely hear anything about it over the years and know almost no one else who's seen it. So glad to have been wrong.

Agreed. Yoshio Harada in the train sequence is worth the price of admission alone.

My copy showed up today. It is definitely from an older Universal master, but it looks better than my memory of the HDTV version I watched a couple of years ago. The substantial Japanese dialogue is subtitled via English subtitles burned-in to the source, so my guess is that this is the DVD master.

As for the film, it's honestly as bad as I remember, with some really strange casting choices. Obviously, Lambert, while technically born in America, is really more French (this is even a joke in the film) and while his English fluency is a lot better than I remembered (he's basically perfect and sometimes accent-less), he's still kind of odd in this movie. The biggest issue, though, is the casting of John Lone and Joan Chen as apparent Japanese people, especially as the former has several scenes of Japanese dialogue that are clearly heavily-accented and not spoken by a native Japanese speaker. I also forgot about a short scene late in the film with
[Show spoiler]Chen's supposed mob (yakuza?) boss husband, "Boss Nemura", who is played by Japanese-American James Saito using his native American accent, which is truly odd.
Still, it is great to see Japanese actors in the supporting roles. Yoshio Harada is great, and it was cool that Lawton was able to find Masumi Okada (the policeman) and of course, YŰko Shimada (Mieko), two Japanese actors who could speak English, to star as well. In fact, Shimada is the highlight of the film, for me, and it's a real shame she hasn't worked more in English-language roles beyond Shogun and a few other minor appearances.

I prefer it when the original theatrical subs are burnt in.

Yeah, I really liked her in this movie. Surprised to learn that in more recent years she turned to appearing in porn!

Are they theatrical? They look extremely bland and thin, like they were made for the video release.

Excuse me, I must research this diligently.
