So, I'm a doofus...
My discs arrived today- Never got an email beyond the automatic response so a nice surprise - and while making the exchange, I kind of lost track of which Sontaran disc is which. Is there anything obvious that would point out the new one? Thank you and sorry if this was already answered! |

I actually got 2 different emails (each time for 2 sets) -- one for my set (email sent in mid Aug and replacement arrive Nov 2) and a second email for a set I purchased for someone else. (email sent after people starting receiving correct discs -- sent Oct 22 and replacement discs arrived in the US Nov 5) 1st automated email came pretty quickly though pretty useless info -- with a couple hrs. "Dear BBC Worldwide Consumer Products visitor, This is an automated response from DVDSupport@bbc.com Please do not reply to this message. Kind regards BBC Worldwide Consumer Products DVD Support Team" Second one came 2-3 days later though I had to rescue both from the SPAM folder. The first email I sent (months ago) had the auto response. After about 6 weeks, I mailed again (same email addy) and received a reply 'that I was on the list'. I emailed again a few weeks ago (check back my posts here) and they said it was due last week... it arrived this week, so I guess that's the way of things. Pretty similar to everyone else, I think ![]() |

So I was planning on getting this set when it was released but had to cancel my pre-order due to more pressing concerns at the time. I was hoping it would get a standard edition re-release here in the UK as I am not hung up on limited packaging.
Seems this is not going to happen so would appreciate some advice as to the best way to get hold of this without paying inflated ebay prices. If I get the US set will the BBC still replace the discs if they turn out to be the original faulty ones? I would happily take UK discs to replace faulty US ones. Will the US set playback at proper UK speeds as I read a lot of stories of PAL shows being sped up/slowed down when released in the US. Is the Australian release an option? Or will that also possibly have faulty discs and playback speed changes? I have a multi region player so region codes are not a problem. If I do go for US or Australian what's the best site to order from? I have used Amazon US before for my US purchases. Thanks in advance for any help or advice. |

The Australian release is exactly the same discs as the UK. There is only a slight difference on the outer card packaging. Different rating logos etc. If you want the release as close to the UK, then the Australia release is the one to go for.
I do wish they would give the option of a standard package release in the UK which is easily available, but no idea what the BBC is planning. I could take or leave the limited edition packaging, it's just card for me at the end of the day, nothing particularly special. Although the booklet is a nice addition. I'm more interested in the content, not the box. I believe the BBC has been replacing the discs from the Australian release too, so you shouldn't have any issues with replacements. Somebody posted the codes printed for the replacements here. They might be slightly different for their release though. Easiest way to check is just to watch Revenge of the Cybermen and you'll see the end credits of Episode 1 has Michael Wisher's name spelt Michael WIAHER.

The UK and AUS sets are basically sold out and very unlikely you can find them without paying Ebay prices. THE AUS set is slightly less expensive for some reason, but still multiple times the original price. The only possibility I'm aware of is that some JBHIFI stores still have a few in store so if you have a friend in AUS who could search their inventory (or have an employee) it's possible they could buy it and ship it direct. The US set is a 1080i/60 conversion. Apparently a quite decent conversion and the folks that have played it haven't complained of any major discomfort. It's cheap(ish) and available. I'm pretty sure some UK people have already gotten US replacement discs though it sounds like the US is also having replication issues slowing the replacements as well. If not and you don't mind a mismatch, there are some slightly underhanded ways of getting BBC UK to replace them with UK copies. They are region free so no problem. From what I'm led to believe UK players and monitors all play 60hz material without difficulty |

US release is converted to 60i but plays at the correct speed. Doesn't have all of the new extras though, clearance issues. However, it's the most sensible way to pick these up without paying through the nose or just sticking with the DVDs until BBC UK figure out what the hell they are doing and reissue it.
