Star Trek wise, only Strange New Worlds shows up as 4K on P+
Picard S2 and Discovery S4 onward are also 4K DV, not just SNW. They have the same post production pipeline too.

Latest theory is that she's a renegade Son'a (Insurrection) and taking revenge on Picard and the Federation for the defeat and dissolution of her race, after their defeat in the Briar Patch and death of Ahdar Ru'afo, during the Dominion War, which saw the Son'a acting as allies to both the Dominion and renegade elements of Starfleet and the Federation Council, who likely had them hunted down after that conflict ended. The design cues of her ship sort of fit with the Son'a warships we saw and we know they used slaves as troops and labor, like she seems to be doing.

One of the things that has always bothered me in the revamped post-Nemesis media continuity, is that The Dominion has gotten no mentions. There was that one episode of Lower Decks that dealt with DS9 and some Gamma Quadrant aliens, with no mention of The Dominion or Jem-Hadar. In Discovery, Picard, and Prodigy, there's also no mention of them in any way, thus far, though Discovery gave us a brief appearance of what seemed to be a Changeling, in a shadowy alien gambling den.

The Karema leader in Lower Decks wondered aloud how the Federation defeated the Dominon in the war. So they have mentioned the Dominion. They've also shown a Jem'Hadar ship in Mariner's holodeck program.

Amanda Plummer is playing Q’s ex wife who he divorced to be with Picard. Now that Q is dead she’s here for revenge.

Don’t mention the war!

Given that she appears to be a walking talking amalgamation of every cliched angry-out-for-revenge Star Trek villain, I really hope she’s just a distraction rather than the main antagonist.

The first episode of season 3 is available now on Paramount+ US. Didn't season 2 stream in 4K Dolby Vision? Season 3 is only 1080p Dolby Vision according to my AppleTV 4K, like season 1 and the first seasons of Discovery were.

In the US it did. See my post above you.
Rest of the world is tomorrow on Prime and P+ in selected countries.

Good start. Still feels like Picard. Stashwick’s character is a d—k.

A wonderful first episode. Everyone seemed so more full of energy and the more playful tone is a delight. Gates McFadden hasn't missed a beat in the past 20 years. Jeri Ryan was on fire. And Frakes is just a joy. But the real magic may have been the gorgeous musical score recalling older themes and styles - I can't understate what that added to the overall vibe.

Anyone else think "ah, so the bad guys have played Portal"?

Right now this is going to be something to look forward to each week.

Some reviewers said it felt like a movie. Well, it felt like a movie to me! Apart from the obvious homages to the movies, we also get plenty of time for beauty shots of all the hero ships and Spacedock.

I love that Seven is still Seven. I liked how they took her in different directions in seasons 1 & 2 to how we left her at Voyager's Endgame, so I'm glad they haven't thrown all that away to have her in Starfleet.

+1

This, plus the use of the same fonts from the movies & TNG show for the title cards =

"For Annie" was a lovely touch too.

I was half expecting Doctor Strange or Wong to pop up.

I read a review by someone who has seen the first six and they said Stashwick plays 'one of the great Starfleet captains' so I have a feeling Picard and Riker win him over.

After mucking my way through the first season and completely skipping the second, I'm happy to say that I enjoyed this first episode of season 3. They leaned heavily on the music and feel of the TOS movies, but it worked for me.

It was amazing. I've already gotten what I wanted, no matter what happens next - our favorite characters interacting and flying around space doing cool stuff. That's all I asked for. That's all I wanted (and didn't get) from the Star Wars ST, so I'm just overjoyed someone finally figured out this not-so-hard-to-understand formula.

So many cool things, but I did find the following to be absolutely hilarious - it's a throw-away line, but just tickled me -

[Show spoiler]When Picard and Riker are boarding Beverly's ship, and Riker comments on the music playing...Picard admits that he made Beverly a "mix tape".

I about died...and that's when I realized that the people who are finally in charge of this show understand the balance between adventure, drama, and humor that make the best Trek, well, the best Trek.

Absolutely, i got goosebumps for the whole space dock scenes. It did fall on it's face a little with the CGI of the Titan after it left space dock, like they forgot to give it one more lighting pass on the ol' computer. But i forgive it for how they really pushed for the feel of the TNG movies

Oh and the screams you hear when the attack happened
