Sadly, Umbrella Ent is ending their World Cinema line because the line did not move units. (World Cinema is a small niche market in Australia.)

As an importer there weren’t really any titles giving me a reason to get the Australian editions other a more local release, except maybe Ida which included the US extras. Which isn’t the case for Umbrella’s other lines. I don’t think the titles were ever as exciting as Madman’s Director’s Suite DVD series. Although La strada included the Madman commentary.

As someone who collects almost everything else Umbrella puts out (Sunburnt Screens, Beyond Genres, Ozploitation...), I didn't buy a single one of the World Cinema line because they were generally inferior editions of titles I had already. Literally no reason beyond an addiction to slipcovers that I am trying to get over.

Is King Kong Lives actually out now? I see JB have had it out for a week now (but nowhere available in-store) and their own website still says "Pre-Order" even though it's listed under New Releases.

I've had a text saying my in-store pre-order is ready for collection, so there's at least one copy in the wild!

Has this been discussed already? I scrolled back like 4-5 pages and didn't see anything. Just got an email from Umbrella and this was in it. Looks super cool. Artwork-wise, story-wise, time period-wise, the praise from Tarantino & Edgar Wright, etc etc.

If this isn't part of the new Umbrella/Vinegar Syndrome partnership tomorrow...I'll definitely be pre-ordering this from Australia as an import.

Not surprised.

All those titles had been released overseas and collectors (like me) had already picked them up.

For the line to succeed they needed to be released at the same time or at least let people know that they were coming, but all of those titles were released several years ago.

I emailed Umbrella about the LE and got this response:

Anyone know what's going on with Sunburnt Screens? There was good momentum for a while, but the releases seem to have died off.
