I know James Cameron was gonna supervise a new HD master from Lowry, long time before "Avatar" would be released. They were expecting Cameron to finish "Avatar", indeed.
What happened to that?

Yes, the Lowry restoration is done and has been sitting in a vault since 2009.

As for the audio, Sony produced the Blu-ray before Fox took over distribution. Sony wanted a 5.1 track to showcase BD's pure audio promise so the mono was dropped. Van Ling actually created this new track using sound effects from T2's archives. The original mono was included on the special edition DVD as per James Cameron's wishes. Sadly, outside of the US, original audio is generally dropped in favor of dub tracks & surround sound. Very rarely do internationally distributors preserve & present the original audio.

20th Century Fox Home Entertainment has announced the Blu-ray release of James Cameron's Terminator officially. In the United States belonged to the first Terminator Blu-rays, which were ever published. In this country, so far only been the last three parts of the cult series on Blu-ray available on the net. The signs are compressed for some time to appear the sci-fi action classic starring Arnold Schwarzenegger this year on Blu-ray disc. As has now been announced by Fox, celebrates its German Terminator Blu-ray premiere on 31 August 2012. The Blu-ray output should bu it seems befitting, and fittingly, the steelbook. The way to a local TV appearance would have paved including the removal took place only last year by the index. A cult film is eventually sold much better if he openly announced that it may be advertised and sold. That time, the protection of young people will be gracious, proves the uncensored version of the issued share over 16 years. After the previously available could convince Terminator Blu-ray editions in terms of image slightly, the German film on the disc in a remastered version will be on display. How much this will be different in a positive sense of the ancient versions, of course, can not say yet. In the realm of sound, the Blu-ray a German audio track in DTS-HD Master Audio 5.1 will have to offer. The original English version must however be content with DTS-HD High Resolution 5.1. Whether the German track also represented by the fans via petition requested the original sound mix, Fox has so far not disclosed. The bonus material includes three featurettes, seven deleted scenes.

thats the info for there german release. i would aussume that uk one will most likely have a dts master audio track.

I doubt that, when it'll probably be 100% the same as the UK release.

This isn't some bumblef*** German label putting it out.

Sure. But Fox took the english lossless audio off of Euro versions of the X-Men flicks IIRC, so it's not like it's never happened before.

Yeah I just like the style of the Play. As for the gun...my all time favorite movie: Escape From New York has had the wrong gun on BOTH the BD and dvd!

Sigh, the beat goes on. We probably won't see a proper US release until T5 comes around (whenever that is).

Van Ling wrecks everything.
He DNRs, he wastes space with complex menus, and he discards original soundtracks like they were cherry Mike & Ike's.

I'd like aaron158 to provide a list of titles Fox did this in Germany with. The X-Men movies are fine.

i wouldn't know i rarely buy german releases. i just posted the info i read about it. but if fox was as perfect as u seem to think they are we wouldn't need a remaster in the first place the oringal release would already be good enough.

we also wouldn't have got things such as the crappy re release of the predator witch they dnred to death.

Except that Fox had nothing to do with the original transfer. Not a single damn thing.

I will wait for a special edition re release of The Terminator on Blu-Ray in the U.S. To me the current blu-ray release is not an improvement enough to upgrade from the original dvd release that came out in 2001 because the current blu-ray does not have the original mono track and not all the extras on the current release are on there.

As is the case with 99% of UK/Euro releases, I'm confident no mono track will be included. Even when they appear on US releases alongside 5.1 remixes, mono tracks are nearly always nixed from the UK/Euro release to make room for a gazillion different foreign language tracks instead. Though in the case of The Terminator, the original US Blu-ray also was without the mono so who knows...

The Bond BDs are a perfect example of the mono tracks disappearing, while crossing the Atlantic.

Let's not forget:

All classic Disney releases (Snow White, Bambi, Dumbo, Pinocchio, AiW etc)
The Godfather I&II
The Day the Earth Stood Still
Chinatown

And years and years of the same policy on DVDs

The Terminator
Jaws
Man with no Name Trilogy
Duel
Dr. Strangelove
Conan the Barbarian
The French Connection

and many others. We sure get shafted over here.

Naturally. Is there anyone that would even debate otherwise? A prettier picture on the box rather than lossless audio? Madness I tells ya....
