Re. BLADE:

The film (original Italian track) is only out of sync for a five minute period; shouldn't have been difficult to spot or, indeed, fix.

You know what L Bava film I'd really like to see get a release, is Demon's Veil. It's never had an English language DVD release, and sure it's goofy, but it's stylish and fun.

I think the kids are calling this "grindhouse" or something these days...

I watched Spasmo last night, I'm not a massive fan of the Giallo genre but really liked it, it was psychedelic enough I liked it.

I'm gonna pray that it only applies to the DVD release. The previous artwork (e.g. the one that implemented the original poster) was perfect.

EDIT: Just checked Facebook and it seems the Blu-ray will also get slapped with the new art. Gross but it'll have the reversible sleeve so it's no biggie.

I'm not mad at the new art; it's not like all that comic booky stuff horror labels were putting out the last couple years.

Don't recall a little girl being the main killer, or even a scene like that poster?

When it drops in price, I'll be reversing the sleve

Outside of store exclusives from 88 Films I only get their BD when Amazon has them for 8.99 - VAT. (And the Australian dollar has gone down the crapper in the last 12 months) I wish them the best but I just can't justify paying more for what they give us, but they did get my money for Antho.... and ZFE2 although not getting any news about change of release dates is slightly annoying. Just have to remind ourselves this is a 2/3 man/woman crew.

Whatever they call it, it's better than DNR and image so smooth it no longer resembles film.

Kind of like the cover; kind of looks like a modern King book cover.

I just mentioned it on the Arrow thread but I'll put the link on here too.
Anyone annoyed by not being able to remove English subs when playing foreign audio on 88films titles ( and not being able to switch audio on the fly) might like to consider the disabling of Prohibited User Operations which is part of the multi region upgrade available from TPS - and it's a feature not included on players from Multi Region Magic.

Great for removing foreign subs from English tracks on foreign discs too and for being able to FF through sections you can't normally.

Spasmo review up at DVDBeaver. 88 have come really far in terms of their compression capability. This looks like another home run; yes, it's an LVR transfer but it's on the nicer end of the scale and the quality encoding really helps. Nice to see they've not even wasted their time with the ****ing noise reduced version offered by the licensor. This definitely looks like the version to get, and at £8.99 sounds like a bargain to me.

Hopefully 88 will continue to make improvements to the Italian line and we can get more discs like Zombi Holocaust and Spasmo and less like Anthropophagus, Night Train Murders and A Blade in the Dark (Solamente nero was serviceable). Bring on Blastfighter and Zombi 3!

Agreed, I just ordered it along with Snake of June and the Bergman set (how's that for a triple bill).

I have enjoyed the entire Italian collection so far. A lot of these films I haven't seen before and I have been impressed with them all. Some of the transfers have not been the best but I still I am glad I bought them all. Looking forward to Zombi 3 a lot.

So is A BLADE IN THE DARK worth buying?

It's the usual garbage transfer done in Italy. It's 8.99 currently on Amazon.co.uk and if you're not from the EU the final price will be 7.49 like in my case. I'd call that a fair price for a release like that.

Finally, there's a review of the 88 Films (UK) disc, via DVDBeaver. Can someone with the Scorpion Releasing disc do a screencap comparison between the UK and US releases? Both unfiltered and filtered. Just looking at the Beaver caps, I'm wondering if this was filtered or not (I don't see it, but I'm still curious). The caps for the US disc I have seen (ex. http://www.dvdtalk.com/reviews/68610/spasmo/ , http://www.mondo-digital.com/spasmo.html , https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Spasmo-Blu-ray/118285/ ) have compression artifacts on the unfiltered, as if whatever they used wasn't handling the noise well.

I am disappointed that the UK disc is Region B locked, but the caps on Beaver ( http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film5/blu-r...mo_blu-ray.htm ) look pretty good. I'm not seeing blocking on the first cap/closeup of Suzy Kendall, for example.

Look at "spasmo4big.jpg" on DVDTalk and look at "large_spasmo_06_blu-ray_.jpg" on DVDBeaver. Difference looks huge to me, like Blue Underground 'Deep Red' vs Arrow 'Deep Red' (original release)...
