![]() 4x08 Pangs DVD vs Pivot HD (low resolution):
![]() Full size: http://img11.hostingpics.net/pics/449344BuffyHD6.jpg - As usual, the SFX shots are upscaled. - It's was to good to be true. Here's some useless zoom-in (screencaptures #2 and #14)! We must notice something else. For the first time ever, there is more information than the R2 DVDs! Look at screencapture #7! - There are some colors problems during the scene in Buffy and Willow's room. The color balance is always changing from a shot to another (it's not shown here). Most of the scene is too warm/reddish. - Spike's close-up is a mess! The scene takes place during the night, yet it looks like daytime! - Once again, something needs to be done with the gamma (look at my edit posted yesterday). It's too bright! |

Upscaled special effects...what a joke this remaster is.
At least they fixed the visible light and camera masks in that last shot there. |

And I don't really mind the upscaled CGI. It's the one thing I'm ready to accept if all the rest is properly transferred. And it's better than having them changing the style of the effects completely (like the dusting). What I do mind is the awful edge enhancement they use almost everytime they upscale a shot from SD, why? ![]() |

I don't care about upscaled special effects, but what they need to do is make sure the color timing is correct, release it in 1.33:1 (if a widescreen version is to get a US release, that needs to be carefully worked on so there are no visible filming errors), and they need to release it sans DNR. I really hope that this makes it to Blu-ray someday.

Thank you Bgfan!
![]() Here's some screencaptures of "Goodbye Iowa" (4x14). ![]() Full size: http://img11.hostingpics.net/pics/203854BuffyHD.jpg Unfortunately, I don't know if all the goofs of the R2 DVDs are corrected. All I can say is that there is an upscalled shot (look at one of the last screencaptures) and that the gamma is still very bad! I made a very quick edit to show you how it could look if it was done right (or at least better) : ![]() Full size: http://img11.hostingpics.net/pics/750279BuffyHD2.jpg Last edited by Buffdale; 06-15-2015 at 12:00 PM. |

![]() 4x14 Goodbye Iowa DVD vs Pivot HD (low resolution):
![]() Full size: http://img11.hostingpics.net/pics/153911BuffyHD2.jpg - Some shots seem to be too much cropped (especially the shot on Tara's room). - Still the usual problems of contrasts/gamma etc. You can now see edits of my own, trying to make the new version more faithful to the original one. - One shot is upscalled at the end of the episode (not in the comparison). |

Well, that's true. Except now we actually have widescreen DVDs as a reference, and they keep on messing with the height when it's not needed (which I predicted would happen, not sure why I'm surprised!)
It just gets more and more depressing... |

Yeah. All our work is useless. The article, the video What's wrong with Buffy's HD, the team members' reactions... So depressing as you said.

![]() I couldn't watch the episode entirely two hours ago. Fortunately, it's rebroadcast in a few hours. However, I noticed something very intriguing. The colors seem to be corrected in the opening credits and the recaps! Look at how much better and more faithful it is now! Do you think that the team behind this remastering corrects color/brightness /etc after the episodes are broadcasted on Pivot TV channel? It makes no sense, yet the question worth considering it.

I was very surprise to see that they changed some colours and they corrected it ! There is definatly a mystery behind that ahah.
Anyway, those are some screen captures from the episode S04E15 "This Year's Girl". It's rebroadcast tonight. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() NO more cameraman on the left !!! ![]() ![]() I can't wait to see your comparisons Buffdale ! Last edited by flofoux; 06-16-2015 at 01:36 PM. |
