Thumbs up

I'm with you, Formula72. However, at least they can give us the original VHS cover art inside the book that houses the discs. I hope they do that, and like I stated before, I do not want original theatrical art, I want classic VHS art, because Parts 2, 4, and 5 have better VHS art then original theatrical posters.

Caddyshack II is hilarious! Jackie Mason and Robert Stack are a riot in this movie.

Anyone remember what part 3 looked like on VHS? Seeing it for the first time on DVD widescreen was like watching a new movie. There were many scenes of Jason watching or stalking his victims that were cut off in the VHS version. Watching it in 3D, even the poor special edition version of it, added even another new layer to the film for me- yes there's lots of obvious and dated 3D stuff throughout the whole film like yo-yos and eyeballs popping at the screen, but I noticed many shots or movements that made so much more sense to me watching in 3D. The wind in the film, for example (instead of the usual rain storm), is clearly a 3D decision when watching in 3D but not so obvious why it's there in 2D. I think I read the house was even built on an angle so it could be filmed better for 3D.
I hope to one day see a 3D showing of it in a theatre.

They're both awful, but at least Manhattan has the black guy fighting Jason on the roof-tops of Canada - EH HEM, I mean New York City..

Nothing comes close to Jason Goes to Hell. It is abysmal. The only positive quality it holds is that it's a blast to watch with friends.

Does anyone know if this will include the theatrical cut of the original or just the altered version?

The actual polarized 3D version was awesome in 3D. I have a very hard-to-find letterbox field-sequential transfer from a Japanese 3D VHD disc (these were popular in Japan back in the 80's), and I can tell you that the 3D is absolutely awesome. The 3D in those old 50's films, and 80's films too, were much better than the limited-depth 3D we get these days - back then they knew how to use 3D, and films had real depth to them, unlike what we see now in the theatre.

My VHD transfer no longer works with current 3D HDTV equipment, but I can still play that transfer on my PC, using 3D player software, and view it in on-the-fly converted anaglyph 3D, and it looks amazing - far better than the lousy anaglyph transfer they put out on blu-ray officially.

And your comment that "99%" of people haven't seen it in 3D so who cares... that's ridiculous. 99% of people haven't seen Creature from the Black Lagoon, Amityville 3D, House of Wax, or Dial M For Murder in 3D either, since they are all from the 50's (except Amityville), but that doesn't mean it should never get released. Your comment makes no sense.
Great post Mar3o!!!
You're right about the 3D effects in Friday 3. I own a 35mm print of this movie and the effects are very well done. In fact the print that I own was the personal copy belonging to Marty Sadoff, the very talanted 3D Technical Director for Friday part 3. Most of the people on this Forum had never seen it in it's original polarized format so some of the comments I've seen in this thread are baseless. Although Amityville 3D is not up to the standards of Friday 3D it's still a lot of fun to see in it's original polarized format. I also own a print of Amityville 3D although it's messing reel #3.
Comments from posters who have no knowledge of the "true" special effects of 3D movies having never seen them as originally released, don't hold any weight imo.

What would you say are some of the best 3D effects in Friday Part 3? I'm very curious, and hope to see a print one day!

For the 1% that want Warner to drop millions into restoring 3D for a film they probably don't have much access to the original prints....THAT makes no sense.

Why upgrade the 3D when a huge majority of the fan base doesn't care???
And where exactly did you pull that 99% figure from? I'm pretty sure I know where. I see plenty of people in here saying they want the true 3D version. There have also been online petitions for years asking Paramount to release a proper 3D version.

The scene of the shark busting through the glass in Jaws 3D looked retarded in anaglyph, it looked retarded in 2D and would certainly look just as retarded in Real 3D.
As someone who has seen the field-sequential 3D version of part III, I can assure everyone who is claiming the 3D is bad that it's not bad. The whole movie is filmed with 3D in mind, and it shows.

Exactly - they put a lot of effort into filming in 3D - unlike the lazy crap they shovel out so much now in theatres. Camera angles, sets, depth of field - it was all considered when filming. The film has very deep background depth - not just a few feet like newer films - the backgrounds look they are waaay back there somewhere.

Thanks.

Amityville 3D I also saw in field-sequential. Yeah, that had some great depth also - and it was loads of fun. I'll be grabbing that for sure when it comes out on blu-ray later this year.

I agree, Friday the 13th part III used 3D far better though. And Amityville 3D was so cheesy.

The pole sticking out when he drops it in the beginning of the film, the baseball bat pointing at the screen, the juggling, the books falling, the eye-popping scene for sure - the whole film benefits greatly from the depth. It's not just the gimmicks, it's how it was filmed. I haven't seen it in 3D in a while though - a few years. I remember being very impressed with how they shot it.

EDIT: Forgot about the yo-yo scene, the popcorn, the rat on the stick, the spear-gun, and the girl swinging on the rope in the barn. Those are just a few more that came to mind.

My favorite effects in order....the spear gun shot through the head, the yo yo scene and when old Rick got his eyes popped out of his head. LOL...what can I say. Two gross and one lame. I also like the pitch fork shoved in the girl up in the barn loft. The anaglyph version of this movie is pure crap and the effects are almost useless. Don't waste your money or time unless they release a digital non-anaglyph BD. I'm sure the other discs in this new box set are wonderful.

I don't feel like thumbing through some 20+ pages to find this out, but is Jason Goes to Hell: The Final Friday (1993) the unrated cut ?? the death of the naked chick in the tent, is by far the nastiest and goriest death in the entire series.

I forgot about the pitchfork - yeah that was great too. Oh yeah, and how about early on when the strange man holds the eyeball he found towards the camera?

I don't think it is known. There's still a ton of details to be announced for this set.

I certainly hope so. It would be for nothing if it's not unrated. That was one of the best kills in the series, hands down. Shame it isn't in one of the better films.

I actually think Friday the 13th 3-D is the most fun 3-D horror movie ever, beating out even the newer 3-D horror movies.

Why are some fans so eager for them not to release it in real 3-D again? I just don't get that mentality. This whole "just shut your mouths and be happy with what we get because we are lucky we are even getting a boxset" just baffles me.

It reminds me of when users were attacking fans on here for saying they felt some of the Elm Street transfers were too dark, which was a legitimate complaint and is inexcusable with the WORLDWIDE popularity of the franchise yet we are the bad guys because we don't want to spend money on subpar transfers even if they are cheaply priced.

Personally, I much rather had an Elm Street boxset at $100+ with top shelf transfers versus what we got for $30 and don't know why any fan should be attacked for saying so.

Glad to see more people speaking up and saying they want Friday 3 in real 3-D instead of acting like WB is doing us a favor - last time I checked there is huge interest in this boxset and we are paying THEM for it, right?

I guess I can see why these companies don't respect the fans, some people on here don't even respect themselves enough to think they deserve better than an inferior product.

so wait, we are under the assumption that Part 3 will be like the DVD and be anaglyph (red/blue) - right?
