According to TT, it's a new transfer and it looks beautiful/great.

Wow, you made my day.

Does TT ship out pre-orders ahead of release date like Amazon?

Best answer is "sometimes." I pre-ordered "Khartoum" on the first day of availability, it shipped about 3 days before street date, and arrived on street date. Similar experience with the two Sinbads, but not so with earlier releases. I do think they are getting better, and my experience goes back to day one with "The Egyptian."

The Blue Max Blu-ray

For our friends who require foreign language options for this film, surprisingly, Fox has already revealed that the Japanese variant will be out from them on April 25th, 2014:

http://video.foxjapan.com/search/detail.php?id=14007

As long as we see other variants pop up shortly (and we should), this disc should be Region ABC and have all the usual audio and subtitles options for where Fox owns the title (which in the case of The Blue Max, is everywhere). As with all Fox's Japanese first-pressing Blu-rays, this title is expensive (the current ¥3,809 price is about $36-$38), so it is advisable to wait for another Fox variant, which will be identical in disc content and almost certainly be cheaper.

There will be, however, a "luxury" slipbox on the Japanese variant, so that obviously justifies the outrageous price in this case...

Specs over on Fox Japan's web site always only cover English (and/or original language) and Japanese options, but indicate the Fox BD includes English: DTS-HD MA 5.1 and Dolby Digital 2.0 tracks. It will be a BD-50 with MPEG-4 AVC video. Extras appear to be limited to the original theatrical, Portuguese and Spanish trailers, and as expected, the Isolated Score is not available on this release. The rest of the information is about the Japanese dub track for the film, which will be presented in DTS-HD MA Mono.

This along with George Peppard's film Operation Crossbow are my two favorites of his.

Mine shipped last night and should be here tomorrow. A little later than normal for TT regarding shipping date, but no big complaints! Looking forward to revisiting a film I always enjoyed and have not seen for some time!

Yeah, same here. Ordered both Thunderbolt and Blue Max and order is still "pending". But, that has been my experience with Screen Archives. I have had orders arrive as early as the Friday or Monday before street date, then as late as more than a week after street date.

Looks like this will be one of the latter kind.

It always seem to be the people who order early who get nailed with this.

I got this along with 3 others and the signed Royal Flash. Mine also still says pending. I don't really care at the moment, but figured I'd let others know that they are not alone.

Yep. Same for me. Ordered Max and Thunderbolt on the first pre-order day and it's still "pending." Didn't figure there was a special-bonus-speed-shipping award for early orders, but it would be nice to have these titles for the upcoming weekend.

Mine arrived today. Hope it is up to the standard set by "Khartoum!" One day after release date ain't half bad.

Received this morning. Very nice, sharp transfer. On the other forum, people are being dared to say that the transfer leans toward the blue (which it does).
I wonder what the consequences will be for having that opinion!

Needless to say this is the best "The Blue Max" has looked on video. I was pretty impressed.
This film has some of the best aero sequences ever filmed with some beautiful WWI biplanes.

A few times I became aware of the film's slant toward teal/orange (much like Fox's "Voyage to he Bottom of the Sea") but the DVD also had some of that and some of that may be in the original element - but some may be 2014 coloring - (Fox seems to slightly lean the Teal/orange route lately).

Too bad this wasn't a FOX blu-ray release. I bought 4 other FOX films last week from FOX Connect with their 50% off sale (All 4 from the recent FOX poll) for the same price as this one title from Twilight and I got free shipping. I would have thought "The Blue Max" was a bigger film then to go to Twilight.

Hope some of the better FOX films stay with Fox (and United Artists/MGM) in the future. (Plus hoping for the remaining FOX Roadshows "Star"! "Can-Can" and "Doctor Dolittle" all filmed in 70MM - hopefully through FOX and not Twilight Time)

Sounds great. Can't wait to Screen Archives sends out my copy some time this decade.
