A new 4K transfer of the only movie in history made explicitly to catch a serial killer.

Directed by Tom Hanson, who had previously owned a chain of Pizza Man restaurants, The Zodiac Killer was made to capture the real-life Zodiac Killer. That plan didn’t work. Instead, we got the most outrageous and compelling “tabloid horror” vortex in the history of planet Earth. And beyond. During theatrical screenings, Hanson constructed in-theater “traps” to lure the killer from hiding. These included the use of an ice cream freezer filled with rent-a-cops and a raffle with a motorcycle as a prize. You won’t get insight like this by watching a David Fincher movie. But you will get it while watching The Zodiac Killer.

Bonus movie: ANOTHER SON OF SAM (1977)
Tabloid-horror trailers from the AGFA archive!
Liner notes and director Tom Hanson interview by Chris Poggiali of TEMPLE OF SCHLOCK

It's being reported on another forum that Ed Wood's THE VIOLENT YEARS (1956) is being transferred from the original 35mm camera negative. I'm assuming that this is being done for Blu-ray.

I've been waiting for this for a long time. The dialog to this film is so amazing. I like the logo and pink color of the new cover, but other than that, I think the artwork on the previous SWV DVD was better.

Am I the only one who'd like to see Blu-Ray versions of the Something Weird discs of "Goliath And The Dragon" and "Hercules Against The Moon Men"? They had some nice looking material for those, and if they haven't gone totally vinegar since then, they'd make for some nice scans.

From their website (emphasis mine):

Quote:
Frank Henenlotter joins the AGFA advisory board

We are beyond honored to welcome Frank Henenlotter — the seminal filmmaker behind BASKET CASE, FRANKENHOOKER, BRAIN DAMAGE, and many more — to the AGFA advisory board.

Frank Henenlotter is a national treasure. His movies are unsettling, hilarious, and jam-packed with bad taste gags that would probably cause John Waters to reassess his worth as a filmmaker. Henenlotter has also devoted his life to collecting and preserving exploitation movie history. In the process, he has become the world’s foremost authority on unbelievable movies that were once considered insignificant, or completely ignored. As part of the team at Something Weird Video, Henenlotter rescued dozens of degenerate films that were gifted to the world through the “Frank Henenlotter’s Sexy Shockers” VHS line. We’re grateful to Henenlotter for his incredible movies, and also for educating the planet on the importance of “experiences” like THE GODMONSTER OF INDIAN FLATS and SATANIS: THE DEVIL’S MASS.

Today, the AGFA advisory board consists of Alamo Drafthouse founders Karrie and Tim League, filmmakers Paul Thomas Anderson, Anna Biller, and Nicolas Winding Refn, musician RZA, exploitation film savior Lisa Petrucci, and genre superheroes Zack Carlson and Lars Nilsen. We’re proud to welcome Henenlotter to the fold.

“AGFA is exactly what we all need to keep this world safe for exploitation films,” said Henenlotter.

Last year, AGFA partnered with Lisa Petrucci and Something Weird to begin redistributing their titles theatrically and on home video, starting with THE ZODIAC KILLER. Frank Henenlotter will play an important role in this partnership by contributing advice, commentary tracks, and liner notes to the cause. In addition, AGFA and Something Weird will resurrect the “Sexy Shockers” line in 2019 for a special Blu-ray set.

Also, they tweeted that the release date for The Violent Years is 11/21.

I'm assuming it most likely will have a reversible cover like the other releases.

Looking forward to The Violent Years release.

Yes! Bring on more Ed Wood stuff. Between this and Orgy of the Dead from Vin Syn, it's a good Q4 for Wood on Blu-ray. Maybe "One Million AC/DC" will be in their sights down the road.

I want Wood's TAKE IT OUT IN TRADE (1970), one of the very few Wood films to have never received a home video release (other than a reel of silent outtakes that SWV once released).

Those desiring a taste of B a t p u s s y will have to get it from somewhere other than the corporate overlords of Amazon. From here:

Quote:
AGFA and Something Weird are excited to announce an October 17, 2017 release date for the BAT P U S S Y Blu-ray. BAT P U S S Y is the second release of dozens in this partnership, following THE ZODIAC KILLER. Fans of trash cinema will be able to snatch up a copy of BAT P U S S Y from a variety of retailers following its release, save for one: mega-retailer Amazon.

“We’re thrilled that our Blu-ray release of BAT P U S S Y has been banned by Amazon,” said AGFA director Joe Ziemba. “It’s reassuring to know that truly outlaw exploitation filmmaking is still alive and kicking — even if it’s forty years old.”

Considered to be the first X-rated parody, BAT P U S S Y is as lurid and tasteless as its title implies. Put another way: It’s mess-terpiece of your wildest dreams . . . And also your most horrifying nightmares. The citizens of Gothum City are under attack by smut filmmakers and only one hero can help! Bat P u s s y (Dora Dildo) hangs out in her secret headquarters (aka an outhouse). When her “twat begins to twitch,” warning her of imminent crime, Bat P u s s y hops on her Holy Hippity-Hop to foil the grotesque sex schemes of un-happily married couple Buddy and Sam! The unidentified lunatic filmmakers of BAT P U S S Y have never been located, providing further proof that this movie was most likely made by extraterrestrials.

To celebrate the release, AGFA and Something Weird will present a world premiere screening of their new transfer of BAT P U S S Y at Fantastic Fest on September 23, with Something Weird’s Lisa Petrucci in person.

“Having BAT P U S S Y restored and released on Blu-ray is just gawd-damn crazy,” said Petrucci. “Out of all the films AGFA could have chosen for it’s second collaboration with Something Weird, this one is unexpected and will come as a shocker to most genre fans. Needless to say, this pleases me.”

Special features include:
– New 2K scan from the only surviving 16mm theatrical print
– Commentary track with Something Weird’s Lisa Petrucci and Tim Lewis, and the AGFA team
– Crime-smut trailers and shorts from the Something Weird vault
– Liner notes by Mike McCarthy, the savior of BAT P U S S Y, and Something Weird’s Lisa Petrucci
– Bonus movie: ROBOT LOVE SLAVES (1971), a new 2K scan from an original theatrical print
– Reversible cover art with illustration by Johnny Ryan (PRISON PIT)

Smart move for Amazon cause if they buy it they'll have too much stock left of this piece of shit.
If you see this and are considering a blind buy DON'T. Unless you truly get off on seeing 2 fat red necks banging under bed sheets for 80 minutes while talking nonsensical shit.
Watch the cinema snob review to see just how worthless this shit is.

I truly get off on seeing obscure, regional, marginalized, oddball, home-made underground films depicting (in this case) mentally-imbalanced misfits drunkenly berate each other in a litany of improvised and inspired non-sequiturs!

My recollection of this sh**-pickle is that poor Buddy can't even get it up and his oral skills are legendary (not in a good way).

This release has caused me to remember that I was (still am?) a member of the unofficial Bat P***y fan club. I still have the laminated member card and Bat P***y magnet
