Some updates have been made concerning Dead Ringers and Black Christmas.

I love the movies releases by shout/scream, but it's becoming annoying and almost predictable that after waiting days to receive their product, you find out you can't enjoy it until a replacement arrives. I understand they do their best to correct the problems, but after so many problematic releases I would expect thay they check every single detail of their blu rays before releasing them.

So dumb question. What if you purchased any of the affected titles in store and no longerrors have a receipt

They seem to be pretty good about helping you out even if your receipt is long gone.

This seems like an awful lot of issues for a singular studio.

And then there's that business with Hackers missing the original surround mix.

There's maybe a dozen legitimate issues out of nearly 300 releases, and the real errors have been corrected and they go out of their way to make things right if you have an affected copy. Some of the "errors" listed on page 1 are kinda on the nit-picky side (and would go unnoticed by 99% of the population, even fans of the films mentioned).

Look, I'm not making excuses for them, but when you weigh the good against the bad, I think they come out miles ahead in the good column. But of course, all anyone wants to do is dwell on the negative...

Until you compare them to Arrow.

Arrow's had their own fair share of issues over the years, let's not forget.

All I'm saying is that 95% of what Scream Factory releases is pretty darn solid (and let's face it, we're lucky to even have a company putting this much love into physical discs in 2017). But all anyone wants to focus on is the small percentage of releases with slight problems (most of which have already been corrected).

The issue I have is that their releases of high profile titles are the ones that tend to have issues.

Before I went through the trouble of contacting them for a replacement H4 disc, I popped mine in to see how bad the issue was. I've got an affected set and as far as I can tell an original disc, but the lips seem to be matching up so I'll just keep what I have. I'm not using a PS3.

I keep hearing about Shout Select's Road House having some kind of transfer issue. I've watched it a few times and didn't notice any issues. I owned the MGM blu ray as well but I don't have it any longer to compare to see what the differences are. Can somebody post screenshots or explain what is wrong with Shouts!?

Edit: Nevermind I found some comparisons. Wow there is a difference but I have to say I think I prefer Shouts! transfer.

IIRC, the audio was messed up in certain parts, not the entire movie.

Yeah, from the research I did it's 45 minutes in, when Jamie gets detached from her trick or treat group to around when the teen boy gets the shotgun. I watched the whole movie closely though and didn't see anything (got reminded of some funny bits I forgot though ). H4 isn't my favorite out of the set, so if it does pop up later I won't mind.

I haven't seen their Road House release myself, but apparently it's the same problem as on Transformers: The Movie, which is a legitimate technical error. Fortunately, it's fixable on many players by setting the color space for PC levels (0-255), but it's still a basics-of-video-mastering mistake (although it's also been made by other companies from time to time).

As I mentioned earlier, I mostly love Shout/Scream, but it's frustrating when they goof on really basic aspects of presentation. However, they have improved by leaps and bounds over the past couple of years, they do often correct their mistakes and provide replacements, and they're very good at communicating with their customers.

Yeah now I'm a little bothered if it is a mastering error on their part. I like that the extreme tanned look on everyone is really toned down on Shouts! release but then again I don't own the MGM copy anymore for comparison. Only screenshots.

That's not so much a encoding/technical error, but rather due to MGM's lazy assed-ness by only providing a HDTV prepped master with 2.0 audio (instead of a proper transfer with the original 5.1) and Shout! accepting what they were given as they probably didn't feel like putting in tons of resources into a "lesser known" title that wouldn't be a hot seller to begin with.

I'm getting the Poltergeist III CE in from Amazon tomorrow, does anyone who already has it know if the transfer has any big encoding issues? Incorrect blacks like with Road House and Transformers I can live with; macroblocking, artifacts, and frame rate issues are unbearable depending on how noticeable they are. I also imagine the supplements have severe interlacing/frame rate issues since it's also a common problem (but not one many notice and say anything about) with many releases using poorly upscaled SD bonus content.
