I'm locked in with Amazon at £39.99... and 'with Prime' (LOL) so let's see if it gets here on Monday.

Edit: Just found it £36.99 on Zoom but not in stock... HMV are listing it as sold out.

It will only be out of stock temporarily.

It is only limited in the sense that they will continue to reprint until it is uneconomical to reprint the big lavish packaging. It may then switch to the US style for a smaller print run.

It at least does show it has sold very well. Bodes well for the future of the range.

Is it definitely getting a second print run, but in amaray packaging?

I do like the current packaging, but I'm trying to reduce weight on my shelves before they collapse, not add to it, lol.

It will get further print runs in the limited packaging until it is uneconomical to do so. They need to bulk order the limited packaging. When demand goes below the amount needed to be economical to produce the limited packaging then they will switch to amaray (or just not reprint as was the case with the 50th set).

I can’t see them doing so given it’s interlaced at 50fps so won’t work in the setups of 99% of American consumers. The returns would be horrific.

Also might be worth noting I spoke to Michael Cochrane who was in Black Orchid at a con yesterday. Someone asked how he enjoyed working with Peter Davison and he said he actually met up with him, Janet Fielding and Sarah Sutton at the filming locations last weekend and filmed something. Could be a special feature for a potential season 19 set and could mean that’s the next one?

I think the general consensus is that it's 18 and 19 next, although not sure which way around. They could well be prepping for both simultaneously.

Given that Davison was my Doctor growing up, I'd be delighted to see 19 on the way

I know the audio fault for the Sontaran Experiment has been brought up here, but there are also a couple of faults on Revenge of the Cybermen.

On Part 1 Michael Wisher's credit is misspelled as "Michael Wiaher" and on the cut between the final two shots of Part 4 it appears the final few frames of the penultimate shot overlap with the first few frames of teh final shot, creating a brief, but very distracting, flicker between the shots.

If we want to avoid fault-free sets in the future I would raise all three of these issues in a polite email to this address: dvdenquiryling@bbc.com

I've been hearing it's region-free. You're saying this is not the case then?

Really like the little logo indent thingie that have as each disc works.

IMO, picture is very so-so. It's most noticeable improvement is when the shot is static on a face, then I can say it's an improvement. I went in thinking the audio issue on Part 1 of Sontarans wouldn't be noticeable, except it is and really stands out if watching the 2 episodes together.

Overall, I really enjoy the set and look forward to the next. Packaging is fantastic and it'll look amazing if all sets were released and retained the same design.

Region-free just means the discs aren't locked to a specific region or regions. The PAL/NTSC frame rate thing is something else. You can have a region-free disc that has 50Hz content on it and you'll be able to play it in the US but probably unable to see the image correctly, if at all. It's mainly only the US that gets problems with it because most of us outside have TVs that can handle both 50/60Hz signals without any probs.

As Rich says the issue for US consumers is the frame rate of the content and not the region status of the disks.

In the US very few TV and BD players support the 50fps frame rate used in Europe which links back to PAL in SD days.

US TVs and BD players virtually all only support the 60fps frame rate of NTSC which is why the US version of this title plays at 60fps.

The UK release at 50fps is very unlikely to play in most US consumers TVs and BD players, hence why Amazon.com or someone like DeepDiscount are unlikely to offer as an import.

Many monitors can accept 50hz directly, many others can internally convert to an appropriate rate or most of the 50Hz players can do the conversion internally to US standard.

Even if the issue is 5-10% it's not going to be feasible and I strongly suspect even a known 1-2% failure would be unacceptable, much less anything higher.

I'm in the US. My last two Panasonic US blu-ray players did not support 25/50fps/50Hz.

My LG 2016 UHD/3D LCD TV does not "officially" support 50Hz. The EDID data the TV reports to the player says it cannot support 50Hz, since LG programmed it to say that because for whatever reason they don't want their US TVs to support 50Hz. If you call and ask them, they will tell you it does not. In reality it does, but if you have a player that obeys the EDID info, then it won't matter if your TV technically can display it, because your player will not allow that as an option to send out. It depends on your player model.

Like I said, my US Panasonic players don't support 50Hz at all. I have several media players also - one obeys the EDID, so even though the player can send 50Hz, it won't allow the option to be selected because the TV says it doesn't support it. My other media player allows you to force the output and ignore what the TV reports - basically it's an override. So it will force 50Hz, and if your TV can display it, great, if not, you'll know because the screen will go black. In my case, my LG TV does display it, if you can find a player to ignore the EDID.

I also own a region-B blu-ray player just for playing region-B locked discs. Not region-free, I mean a real Panasonic region-B player from Amazon UK. That of course can send out both 50Hz and 60Hz, and because of that I can play 50Hz blu-rays since my TV will display it as long as the player will output it.

It's annoying that the US manufacturers play these games. The TV can clearly display 50Hz yet they basically have it disabled as far as most consumers are concerned. Yet my girlfriend's parent's cheapo Vizio TV does display 50Hz, and their cheapo LG player does also. So LG's US players support 50Hz but their TVs don't.

While PAL compatibility is nowhere near 100%, it's certainly not 1%. PS4s and Xbox Ones play back unlocked DVDs and BDs with no issues, and there's obviously a huge number of those in the US. Televisions have had better compatibility in recent years.

In other news, the Sontaran and Revenge discs are being replaced for the UK set.
