Ha, amazing. Never known Pebble Mill to be described as having an MTV Live vibe.

More baffled by the season being called "undeniably silly". That can certainly sum up some Who but not the Bidmead era. And the "it was children's TV...." stuff being peddled despite the BBC having had an entire kid's TV department with completely separate funding. Not sure people get the "family show" concept these days...

The reviewers do seem to be staggeringly ignorant, if not completely brain-dead.

Indeed. (The anime reviews are the worst- it appears they have NO idea what banding is, and the “review” is saying- oh it looks pretty- as in the visual aesthetic and not the encode)

I’ve learned to not read them, and just look at the screenshots they give.

Bidmead's stuff is deadly serious in a lot of ways, but the way the show was shot, acted and produced still makes it pretty silly overall.

The Doctor’s plan to materialise the Tardis underwater then open the doors to flush the Master out is unbelievable.

Hi I've had an email back from dvdsupport about the sync issue on the bbc continity announcements extra on the castrovalva disc 1 and they replied with this

Thank you for alerting us to this issue.
You will be able to enjoy this content with revised audio on our Season 18 release.

So there will not be a disc replacement for season 19.

It's a bonus feature that you're not likely to watch more than once.
Probably not worth printing new discs for something so insignificant.

That’s more than I expected them to do given the nature of the issue.

TBH I’m not really bothered either way. I didn’t watch that extra when I went through the disc and I doubt I ever would.

Agreed. Their reviewer sounds ignorant. He probably thinks the new series should be taken seriously because it's got a higher budget. Season 19 had some wonderful high concept stories, even Time-Flight for it's dodgy middle part has strong opening and closing episodes.

At first I thought that was a joke then I remember what kind of world we live in so I wouldn't be surprised. A shame because it ended up being my favourite extra from the Earthshock DVD.

Not too sure. That's not a good example. A better example would be a scene with darkness or blackness. It shows up more. It's almost like static and I've seen it on pretty much every film related HD presentation so it must be my TV or player but not sure what it is. Motion blurring is definitely off I know that.

EDIT: found the problem!

It's not as bad as that but some areas of the screen are definitely like that at times mostly noticeable in darkness.

However as the clip was scripted and dubbed by Jamaican actors wouldn't that cancel out any accusations of racism? I've a feeling it's non-inclusion has more to do with penny pinching than political correctness. But this is the BBC we're talking about...

It could be but either reason I'm sad to say in today's climate is valid.

The modern show is pretty silly too. Doctor Who has always been a silly show. Even when it does a pretty serious and complex story its execution and style is usually silly in one way or another.

Die-hard fans shouldn't take "silly" as an insult really, it's part of the show's charm.

But this isn't a series that shows the silliness off. Sure it's got some guff effects, some poor performances etc but Bidmead and JNT were trying to cut the silliness out here intentionally.

When S17 is reviewed, or S24 then fair enough but by the show's standards S19 is a reserved one.

I can't remember the show not having a reputation for being silly, among other things.

I don't care about it's reputation amongst ignorant reviewers on this site I just know that I will take Doctor Who over the majority of the BBC's current drama output in the 80's and especially now as they have an endless conveyor belt of depressing dramas shot through the same mundane filter that make you feel endlessly miserable should you ever have the misfortune to sit through them. As a broadcaster they really seem to lack the ability to commission anything that might have some hope and optimism about it. I know I am generalising but it seems like you switch the channel on after 9pm and they just want to punish you.

There was probably a point to this post when I started it.
