Wasn't there an issue with missing audio on the TT disc (camera snap noises during that scene right before the end credits)?

My brother has the Umbrella Blu-ray and it looks pretty good aside from some . . . "speckling" (for lack of a better word) during the early daytime scenes. Once the film moves indoors and specially once nighttime sets it, it sort of disappears and isn't as easy to see. We were able to watch it without distraction. But you could tell there was still room for improvement, so if this release is cleaned up and also does away with the blue tinting that Twilight Time had on their release, we might look into getting it. Otherwise, we'd be fine just sticking with the Umbrella disc.

The Umbrella disc looks good for being what I presume to be an ancient HD master, but if they ditch the silly blue tinting on the scan that was used for the Twilight Time disc I have no doubt it will look better than the Umbrella disc. I would probably still hold onto the Umbrella disc if the new Sony disc is good and I get it because there are extras on the Umbrella one that will more than likely not be on the new Sony one.

Not a movie I feel a great need to upgrade honestly, the Umbrella probably does me fine. I guess we'll see what they do with it though.

I'm not joking when I say that I continue to be amazed that the "Speckling" issue was never more widely panned on these boards. Folks seem to find a million and one reasons to dog on a release but Umbrella's release of NOTLD90 seems to somehow dodged that bullet. For whatever reason I found that noise to be incredibly distracting when I tried watching the Umbrella release and nearly as aggravating as the altered color on the twilight time release. I'm hoping this Sony release finally solves both issues once and for all.

I think with the Umbrealla it was just people relieved to get it in on blu-ray without the over the top revisionist (???) tinting, that it got a pass in a way it wouldn't have gotten if the Twilight Time release never existed.

I originally had the TT disc and sold it once I found the AU disc for about $15 shipped. I think I made the right choice.

I think Sony decided to hang onto this one and release it themselves in the hopes of repeating history. The Twilight Time disc sold out very quickly so they think, "hey, if TT can do it so can we". And they very well may make a small mint from this but they would make a whole lot more if it were a stacked Collector's Edition with proper color timing and the unrated cut. Who knows - they may surprise us.

I thought Patricia Tallman (Barbara) was smokin' hot in the film, and still looked mighty fine (the Umbrella bluray).

Some scalpers are still trying to offload the TT discs at inflated prices. Hoping for a more natural color timing a la the Umbrella, but I'll laugh if the Sony disc is the exact same as Twilight Time's for 1/4 the price...

I only have an old DVD version, so I am excited to upgrade. Will wait for reviews to see if I should go with the Umbrella version or this version. Would love for it to include any of the deleted violent 'X' rated scenes which I think are relegated to really bad low quality.

This might be sacrilege and I'm usually a purist that hates remakes with a passion...but I thought this version was better than the original. Tony Todd was just awesome in this one.

I've grown to really enjoy the original now but I do still like the remake more. Tony Todd is excellent and so is Patricia Tallman. I love the remake's take on Barbara and the progression she makes over the course of the film.

She went on to have great success as a Hollywood stunt woman. Beautiful and badass!

The Umbrella disc did have a lot of black specs early on, but that kind of thing doesn’t really bother me. *shrugs* Although it does pretty much suggest that it’s a scan from the interpositive, and not the original camera negative. (The negative would have only white specs. A print or IP could have both black and/or white specs.)

As for comparing this to the original, it’s certainly better made on a technical level, and has better performances and character development, but the original has a certain documentary style to it that really gets under my skin more, and has some powerful themes not brought over to the remake. It’s a far more memorable film, but this is highly enjoyable too.

At least they are using the right cover. Poster art!!!!

I have a nice custom with 2 different color timings (one reworked from the TT, the other from streaming), all the dvd extras and the workprint (as well as the TT) so I'm passing unless there is something revolutionary and mind-blowing about the new one. A watchable workprint could qualify cuz that is the same VHS-looking one everyone (who's seen it) has seen.

Cool news for those who hated the TT, and never imported or got a custom though.
