Interesting how some are bashing the film's score as I actually really liked it. When I think of this film, I find myself humming to it. I'd go as far as say I prefer the score over Dawn's score. Maybe it's just me but I really dig it.

People who hate on this movie's score are the same kind of ppl who watch New Twin Peaks and see the 90s FMV video game style composite clip-art effects shots and scream at them for being "bad and outdated" and I'll stand by that

Twin Peaks has a great 90s synth score that doesn't sound low budget or dated at all. Good example to introduce to bolster why NOTLD90's score is bad!

On the other hand, I wonder if anyone would even still talk about it or if it would have gotten all these discs if it hadn't been a remake. Tying it to a universally known classic gave it a lot more attention than it would have gotten otherwise, I think. But, we'll never know.

Other remakes like The Fly, The Thing, and Invasion of the Body Snatchers 78 are acknowledged as classics so I don't think being a remake is any barrier.

I need to watch this again. I've only seen it a few times and it's been a while. I think I might just like Ben as a protagonist more than Barbara. I think it also weirdly feels more immediate and less like a movie, though that's completely opinion and I can't articulate why I feel that. Maybe just the black and white and almost total lack of makeup effects. And trowel girl is a much nastier shock than anything in the remake.

You're making me remember when a bunch of ppl argued that New Twin Peaks shouldn't have a synth score at all because synths are "inherently dated and bad" and that it needed an orchestral score instead. I love the internet.

This is a very well-made zombie film, but it doesn't leave nearly as much of an impact as the original for me. The bigger budget and story changes just made it a more bland experience IMO. Still, I enjoy it for what it is, even if I spend most of the film mentally checking off the similarities and differences. Wouldn't be surprised to see Sony release this on UHD at some point.

And yes, I do love the score for this film, especially the end credits music.

I got the US Sony release which I understand is a decent one, but are the Umbrella considered to be better?

Reason I'm asking is that I will rewatch this in a Zombie movie evening, and if the Umbrella is better, I may give that one a go.

EDIT: Most reviewers seem to deem the Sony the best release. Oh well, nice.

This is one of the most polarizing title. I've never seen so many of us split and absolutely convinced about one version over the other. I prefer the Umbrella blu-ray because it looks as I remember it growing up.

Then there's the Twilight Time blu-ray. I can't get rid of that disc. The furor over that blu-ray was insane. The pre-order insanity because the server kept crashing, then it sold out in ten minutes (IIRC). Then people played the disc....

Umbrella all the way due to the proper color timing. The TT disc is a mess with the blue tint while the Sony disc has incorrect color timing, but marginally better compression.

Well now, then I'll rewatch the Umbrella instead. One cannot have too many zombie movies. :-)

This title is dooshed no matter what blu ray you turn to. The Umbrella HD master is painfully-processed rubbish (although I force myself to watch it, usually on a smaller display, never on my 77") and the Sony master is nigh unwatchable for me with its delusionally-wack, highly-distracting color timing. I just can't make myself settle into it. The only hope this title might have would be a hopeful 4k uhd in future.

Yes, but it's an over-processed piece of shit that actually looks somewhat how the film is supposed to. The Sony master is regraded mess.

I had no issues with the technical aspect of the Sony release, but I will watch the Umbrella next time either way.

What do you call the Sony then?

That is Scream levels of crap man.

Not to mention stuff like the branches here: https://caps-a-holic.com/c.php?a=1&x...0&l=0&i=3&go=1

Umbrella ain't demo material in the slightest, but it sure as heck looks better than this.
